BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) football teams have reported to camp in preparation for the 2025 season.

Augsburg University will be the first MIAC team to kick off the new year when the Auggies travel to North Dakota for a matchup under the lights at Valley City State University on Thursday, September 4. Two days later, seven other MIAC programs will begin their 2025 non-conference schedules on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, September 6.

Conference play begins on Saturday, September 20, as the MIAC returns to a full round-robin schedule format this fall. Each MIAC team will play nine conference contests. The team with the best record in conference play at the end of the season will be crowned MIAC champion and receive the conference’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Football Playoffs. After the automatic qualifiers have been awarded to conference champions across Division III, the remaining NCAA Playoff qualifiers will be selected “at-large” via the NCAA Power Index (NPI). The Football NPI will calculate winning percentage, strength of schedule, home-away results, quality wins, and overtime to rank teams for postseason consideration.

The 2025 NCAA Division III Football Playoffs will run from Saturday, November 22, 2025, through Saturday, January 10, 2026. The Stagg Bowl national championship game on January 10 will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

RULE CHANGES

The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel (PROP) approved modifications to the injury timeout rules in April. Under the new rule, if the player presents as injured after the ball is spotted by the officiating crew for the next play, that player’s team will be charged a timeout. If the team does not have any timeouts remaining, a five-yard delay-of-game penalty will be assessed.

The panel also approved a rule change regarding overtime timeouts. If a game reaches a third overtime, each team will have one timeout beginning with the third overtime until the game is ended.

In addition to transitioning from a divisional structure to a single round-robin scheduling format in 2025, MIAC football coaches also adjusted conference policy to move kickoff times for games played after Daylight Saving Time ends to noon, unless the home team has approved stadium lights to play later. This adjustment matches the NCAA Playoff game start time and will help ensure late-season contests maximize daylight. MIAC coaches also revised best practices and expectations for filming and sharing game film, and updated conference tiebreakers to suit the revised schedule format.
