Escalating its mission<\/a> to eliminate so-called \u201cwoke\u201d content from the Smithsonian, Trump\u2019s team has just publicly identified artwork it hopes to censor.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the White House\u2019s official rapid response X account shared a post<\/a> casting aspersions on a Rigoberto A. Gonzalez painting titled Refugees Crossing the Border Wall Into South Texas.<\/p>\n

The piece depicts a family of four in Baroque style: two parents with a young boy and a baby, at a ladder leaning against the southern border wall. A finalist<\/a> for the National Portrait Gallery\u2019s 2022 Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, the piece appeared in that Smithsonian Museum from 2022 to 2023, according to the competition\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

The White House social team, seemingly irked by this humanizing portrayal of people demonized by the Trump administration, accused the work of \u201ccommemorating the act of illegally crossing the \u2018exclusionary\u2019 border.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is what President Trump means when he says the Smithsonian is \u2018OUT OF CONTROL,\u2019\u201d the post says\u2014quoting from a recent Truth Social post<\/a> in which the president lamented that the Smithsonian overemphasizes negative aspects of America, such as \u201chow bad Slavery was.\u201d<\/p>\n
