\n\tSomewhere in Tallahassee, at the turn of the millennia, a young Byron Donalds<\/a> stood in the parking lot of his local Cracker Barrel<\/a> \u2014 then his place of employment \u2014 and contemplated the man atop the wood-and-whimsy pancake palace. It was in that moment, staring into the gold and brown face helming the performatively old-timey interstate eatery, that a future congressman decided to give himself to Christ.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThat may not be exactly how it happened, but Donalds came forward with his story of religious epiphany in a Cracker Barrel parking lot amid MAGA outrage over the chain restaurant\u2019s decision to change its logo, removing the image of \u201cUncle Herschel\u201d and his barrel.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIn college, I worked at @CrackerBarrel in Tallahassee. I even gave my life to Christ in their parking lot,\u201d he wrote<\/a>. \u201cTheir logo was iconic and their unique restaurants were a fixture of American culture. No one asked for this woke rebrand. It\u2019s time to Make Cracker Barrel Great Again \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThere is no indication that Cracker Barrel\u2019s decision to simplify its logo was motivated by politics or \u201cwokeness.\u201d If anything, the company has been struggling for years<\/a> to market its perfectly mediocre food and boomer nostalgia-themed ambiance to anyone but the remaining population of baby boomers, or those in urgent need of a bathroom during their long drives. A rebrand was long overdue. But Republicans<\/a> are reacting to the marketing decision as if old Uncle Herschel \u2014 the uncle of founder Dan Evins \u2014 had been taken out back and shot in the name of DEI.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWTF is wrong with @CrackerBarrel??!\u201d Donald Trump Jr.<\/a> wrote on X<\/a>. MAGA country musician John Rich asked his followers<\/a> if they would \u201cgo to Cracker Barrel now that it\u2019s going woke? This could be a \u2018Bud Light\u2019 moment<\/a> in the making.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tRight-wing actor James Woods posted<\/a> that on cross-country drives, \u201cCracker Barrel was the only place I\u2019d ever stop. No mob fights, a fun corny atmosphere, and delicious food when you\u2019re hungry and tired. I\u2019ll never stop foot in one again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tProfessional anti-woke troll Christopher Rufo declared<\/a> that \u201cwe must break the Barrel. It\u2019s not about this particular restaurant chain \u2014 who cares \u2014 but about creating massive pressure against companies that are considering any move that might appear to be \u2018wokification.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn effect, Rufo openly acknowledged that while there may be no actual indicator of the restaurant chain\u2019s motivation, the delusions of right-wingers triggered by the redrawing of a corporate logo or the redesign of a candy mascot<\/a> are grounds for punishment. And, to that end, Cracker Barrel\u2019s already flailing stock took a dip<\/a> on Thursday as conservatives fumed at the company.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFor some reason, the Democratic National Committee got in on the act. \u201cWe think the Cracker Barrel rebrand sucks too,\u201d wrote<\/a> the DNC, amid the total collapse<\/a> of its own brand.<\/p>\n

\n\tEven more bizarre, for some Republican influencers, the meltdown over Uncle Herschel\u2019s PR demise took a turn for the sexual. TPUSA Founder Charlie Kirk<\/a> posted an image<\/a> comparing the original logo to new MAGA favorite<\/a> and universally-acknowledged-hot-actress Sydney Sweeney<\/a>, and the redesign to a plus-sized woman.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAccurate\u201d Kirk wrote. Is the implication that Kirk found the image of Herschel to be hotter?\u00a0<\/p>\n
