Over its currently two-season run, Star Wars: Visions<\/a>\u00a0has shown audiences the adventures of Force users, droids, and rebels<\/a>. One viewpoint we\u2019ve not seen much of is the Imperial forces, despite their repeatedly turning up in the show\u2019s various shorts\u2014but that\u2019s changing with the new season<\/a>, and things will get pretty cerebral.<\/p>\n

During this weekend\u2019s Anime NYC, panelists got a look at \u201cBlack,\u201d a short for the next set of episodes dropping in October<\/a>. Developed by david production (Fire Force), the episode centers on an Imperial Stormtrooper on the verge of losing a battle and what\u2019s going on in their head during their final moments. According to the\u00a0Star Wars<\/a>\u00a0description, \u201cBlack\u201d will be something special and \u201d present a psychedelic battle between past and present, light and dark, and life and death.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBlack\u201d is directed by Shinya Ohira, who\u2019s previously directed and done animation work for\u00a0One Piece and The Boy and the Heron. In a pre-recorded video, he talked about the short\u2019s \u201cfine details,\u201d such as \u201csuper detailed\u201d Death Star and extending action in the battle scenes to convey the stormtrooper\u2019s \u201chaunted psyche.\u201d Visually, the film was also inspired by Ohira\u2019s want to put \u201cintense battles\u201d against the vocals of Japanese singer\/songwriter Sakura Fujiawara.<\/p>\n

Ohira went on to describe \u201cBlack\u201d as something \u201cnobody\u2019s ever seen before,\u201d and an \u201carduous task\u201d for the animators that he hopes is worth all the trouble. The article on the Star Wars website doesn\u2019t provide any clips or further story info, but Ohira promised the short \u201creally speaks for itself\u201d\u2014and we\u2019ll see how well it talks when the third season of\u00a0Star Wars: Visions hits Disney+ on October 29.<\/p>\n
