The 2025 US Open qualifying tournament has finished, as all 128 players now know who they will be playing in round one.<\/p>\n

World number one Jannik Sinner<\/a> will return to defend his US Open title in 2025, having beaten Taylor Fritz in last year\u2019s final.<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll be challenged by several top stars, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic<\/a>, and Alexander Zverev, who are all desperate to get their hands on the trophy.<\/p>\n

However, Grand Slam tournaments aren\u2019t just for the players vying for the title, as the players who fight to qualify for the main draw often have the best stories to tell.<\/p>\n

In total, 19 players have advanced to the US Open<\/a> main draw via the qualifying tournament in 2025, three of whom received last-minute entries as lucky losers.<\/p>\n

Battling through three rounds of qualifying, 19 players will join the 128-man field at Flushing Meadows.<\/p>\n

The last of the 19 qualifiers is Australia\u2019s James Duckworth, who received a lucky loser spot in the main draw when Arthur Fils withdrew from the US Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The world number 107 will be looking to make the most of his opportunity and pick up another memorable win.<\/p>\n

James Duckworth beat Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton<\/p>\n

In 2021, Duckworth travelled to Toronto in search of a place in the main draw of the Canadian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Defeating Illya Marchenko and Peter Polansky in qualifying, the Aussie advanced to the first round, where he took on Taylor Fritz<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In straight sets, Duckworth stunned the American, 7-6, 6-3, to book his place in the second round.<\/p>\n

There, he met Italy\u2019s Jannik Sinner<\/a>, the 16th seed, who had won the Washington Open weeks earlier.<\/p>\n

Producing one of the biggest wins of his professional career, Duckworth knocked out Sinner, winning 6-3, 6-4.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, he couldn\u2019t continue his winning run in round three, losing to the number-one seed Daniil Medvedev<\/a> 2-6, 4-6.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t done upsetting the big names there, however, as Duckworth provided another shock in 2024.<\/p>\n

Taking on America\u2019s Ben Shelton<\/a> in Stuttgart, Duckworth was a big underdog, having advanced to the main draw via qualifying once again.<\/p>\n

Winning the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 [7-5], the Aussie closed in on a big win over the number two seed.<\/p>\n

Fighting back, Shelton grabbed the second 6-4, forcing a deciding set in round two of the Stuttgart Open.<\/p>\n

It was there that Duckworth kicked into gear, sealing the win in three sets, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, booking his place in the quarterfinals, where he fell to Matteo Berrettini<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite never breaking into the top 40 himself, Duckworth has picked up several wins over top 40 players during his career.<\/p>\n

Duckworth will be hoping to notch a 14th top-40 win of his career at the US Open, and could do so in round two, should he and Andrey Rublev<\/a> both advance.<\/p>\n
