{"id":1065,"date":"2025-07-11T08:42:04","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T08:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/1065\/"},"modified":"2025-07-11T08:42:04","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T08:42:04","slug":"carson-branstine-reveals-what-novak-djokovic-said-to-her-when-they-unexpectedly-met-at-wimbledon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/1065\/","title":{"rendered":"Carson Branstine reveals what Novak Djokovic said to her when they unexpectedly met at Wimbledon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Carson Branstine made her Wimbledon debut in 2025 and immediately found herself on the biggest of stages.<\/p>\n<p>Advancing to the Wimbledon main draw via qualifying, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/aryna-sabalenka-and-novak-djokovics-first-round-opponents-deliver-immediate-reactions-to-nightmare-wimbledon-draw\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Branstine was rewarded with a first-round tie with Aryna Sabalenka<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Giving it her all, Branstine represented herself well against the world number one, but came up short, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sabalenka<\/a> won in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2222149380-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Aryna Sabalenka shakes hands with Carson Branstine after their first-round match at Wimbledon in 2025\" class=\"wp-image-107009\" \/>Photo by ADRIAN DENNIS\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>After the match, the Canadian met 24-time Grand Slam champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Novak Djokovic<\/a>, whom she had \u2018shouted out\u2019 in an interview earlier in the week.<\/p>\n<p>Branstine has now revealed what the Serb said to her when they spoke for the first time at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wimbledon<\/a> in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Novak Djokovic told Carson Branstine she has a \u2018great game\u2019 and that he\u2019d love to talk to her more<\/p>\n<p>Appearing as a guest on \u2018The Slice Tennis\u2019, Branstine recalled the conversation she had with Djokovic after her first-round match at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way I met Novak [Djokovic] just caught me off guard,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the match, I met him when I was walking to the media, he was like \u2018Carson [Branstine]\u2019, I was like, \u2018Oh my gosh, hey you, what\u2019s up?\u2019 I literally had to leave, and he knew it too, and he was walking out with his kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was super nice, saying thank you for shouting me out, and that, I think you have a great game, I saw some of your matches, I\u2019d love to talk to you more when there\u2019s more time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess that\u2019s not the last time we will talk, but he\u2019s awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old proceeded to praise Djokovic for the way he interacts with younger players, something she wishes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA<\/a> veterans would do.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2222643866-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Novak Djokovic speaks to the crowd after beating Dan Evans at Wimbledon\" class=\"wp-image-108076\" \/>Photo by ADRIAN DENNIS\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love that he connects with a lot of the younger players, I think it\u2019s an important thing for someone who\u2019s at that point in their career,\u201d said Branstine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish more players did it, honestly, especially on the women\u2019s side, it doesn\u2019t seem like there\u2019s anyone quite so engaging, it was refreshing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Branstine had already posted about her interaction with Djokovic on social media, where she named him as the G.O.A.T. I want to acknowledge how kind he is and how he thanked me for shouting him out in my interview after qualifying,\u201d she said on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I was Balkan in another life because I always end up friends with you all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying for the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career at Wimbledon, Branstine looked like she belonged on Centre Court.<\/p>\n<p>Taking confidence from that experience and her meeting with Djokovic, Branstine will no doubt return to Wimbledon in 2025 looking for more.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s next for Carson Branstine after her Wimbledon debut?<\/p>\n<p>Currently ranked 194th in the world, Branstine is a long way off from making the main draws of WTA tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the Canadian will now return to the lower-tiered ITF level, where she plans to compete at the Evansville ITF 100 event.<\/p>\n<p>In a competitive field, Branstine will be joined by top 100 star Yue Yuan in Indiana, USA.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2222897780-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Yue Yuan in action at Wimbledon in 2025\" class=\"wp-image-110323\" \/>Photo by Thomas Schreyer\/VCG via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Her primary goal for the next few months will be to ramp up preparations for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> qualifying event.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unlikely Branstine will be able to accumulate enough points to reach the main draw directly, but heading to Flushing Meadows with some big wins under her belt will do her confidence a world of good.<\/p>\n<p>As is the case in all four Grand Slam tournaments, players need to win three qualifying matches to reach the main draw.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing in two Grand Slam qualifying events throughout her career, Branstine failed to make it through in Paris before winning the three matches required at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>2025 French Open Q1 \u2013 Carson Branstine beat Whitney Osuigwe2025 French Open Q2 \u2013 Carson Branstine lost to Rebeka Masarova2025 Wimbledon Q1 \u2013 Carson Branstine beat Lois Boisson2025 Wimbledon Q2 \u2013 Carson Branstine beat Bianca Andreescu2025 Wimbledon Q3 \u2013 Carson Branstine beat Raluca Georgiana Serban<\/p>\n<p>Only time will tell if she can repeat her Wimbledon success at the US Open later this year, but it will certainly be something to look out for.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 US Open qualifying tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 18.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>  <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Carson Branstine made her Wimbledon debut in 2025 and immediately found herself on the biggest of stages.
