{"id":107581,"date":"2025-08-24T23:37:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T23:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/107581\/"},"modified":"2025-08-24T23:37:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T23:37:07","slug":"marvel-is-the-next-10-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/107581\/","title":{"rendered":"Marvel Is the &#8216;Next 10 Years&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/kumail-nanjiani\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kumail-nanjiani\" data-tag=\"kumail-nanjiani\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kumail Nanjiani<\/a> says that he signed on for six Marvel movies when he was cast as the superhero Kingo in Marvel Studios\u2019 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/eternals\/\" id=\"auto-tag_eternals\" data-tag=\"eternals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eternals<\/a>,\u201d but that the film\u2019s critical and commercial disappointment \u201cshattered\u201d him and led him to seek out therapy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe topic came up in Nanjiani\u2019s appearance on fellow stand-up comedian Mike Birbiglia\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?app=desktop&amp;v=Y8zwAj3sYpc\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cWorking It Out\u201d podcast<\/a>. Nanjiani revealed that his Marvel experience is a key subject in his new stand-up special, releasing on Hulu later this year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI talked about how I was in this big movie. It came out right after COVID, so I had a year and a half at home to just be like, \u2018Oh, when this thing comes out!&#8217;\u201d Nanjiani shared. \u201cBut then it came out and it got really bad reviews and it didn\u2019t do that well. It shattered me too much. That\u2019s when I was like, \u2018Oh I need to go to therapy to figure this out.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNanjiani confirmed that the project was \u201cEternals,\u201d explaining that he thought he would be much more involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, this is going to be my job for the next 10 years,&#8217;\u201d Nanjiani continued. \u201cI signed on for six movies. I signed on for a video game. I signed on for a theme park ride. They make you sign up for all this stuff. And you\u2019re like, \u2018This is the next 10 years of my life, so I\u2019ll be doing Marvel movies every year and, in between, I\u2019ll do my own little things, whatever I want to do.\u2019 And then none of that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cEternals\u201d released in November 2021 and was the worst-reviewed Marvel Cinematic Universe entry up to that point. It grossed $402 million globally, which was seen as a theatrical disappointment for a $200 million-budgeted franchise entry from a blockbuster banner like Marvel Studios. Since then, Nanjiani\u2019s Kingo and his fellow Eternals heroes haven\u2019t featured in another another Marvel project. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMarvel is currently gearing up for the team-up \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d in 2026, which will bring together characters from across various projects.
