Young Venus was unable to maintain her momentum in the match, eventually losing in three sets.<\/p>\n<p>However, Venus had already made her mark on the tennis world. Mandatory Credit: Al Bello\/ALLSPORT<\/p>\n<p>After her match against Stafford, a 14-year-old Venus described her immediate feelings.<\/p>\n<p>Venus Williams was a \u2018little surprised\u2019 by her lack of nerves<\/p>\n<p>After defeating Stafford in California, 14-year-old Venus spoke to the media at a press conference.<\/p>\n<p>During the press conference, Venus remarked on her cool composure on court, despite the enormity of the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>Venus said: \u201cI was somewhat surprised and somewhat not surprised. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess since I haven\u2019t played a tournament, a professional tournament, I was a little surprised at how I wasn\u2019t nervous at all, getting excited or jumpy, you know, yelling and screaming [laughing].<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"856\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-283059-1024x856.jpg\" alt=\"VENUS WILLIMS, 14, HUGS HER FATHER, RICHARD, AFTER COMPLETING HER TOUR DEBUT IN THE BANK OF THE WEST CLASSIC IN OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. Mandatory Credit: Al Bello\/ALLSPORT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I wasn\u2019t surprised because I know I can play and that no one\u2019s going to stop me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Venus has gone on to win 23 Grand Slam titles across singles, doubles and mixed doubles formats; including five <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wimbledon<\/a> Ladies Singles titles. The American star has also won five Olympic gold medals.<\/p>\n<p>Pam Shriver was impressed by Venus Williams after her first professional match<\/p>\n<p>Pam Shriver, who won 133 WTA Tour-level titles during her wildly successful career, weighed in on 14-year-old Venus shortly after the youngster\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to American broadcaster CNN, Shriver said: \u201cI was impressed for her first match. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSure there\u2019s some green parts to her for sure, but at 14 what do you want?
