As the Florida Gators prepare to defend their national championship, the health of two key guards, Boogie Fland and AJ Brown, remains a top concern. Head coach Todd Golden\u00a0recently provided crucial updates on their recovery timelines, offering a clearer picture of what the roster might look like for the highly anticipated 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n

With major roster shifts already underway, the pace of their return could be the deciding factor in Florida\u2019s quest for a repeat.<\/p>\n

What Is the Recovery Status for Boogie Fland and AJ Brown?<\/p>\n

Florida head coach Todd Golden recently sat down with college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein\u00a0to discuss life after the Gators\u2019 championship run and how the program is preparing for the 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n

During the conversation, Golden addressed the development of key newcomers and provided health updates on standout guards Boogie Fland and AJ Brown. Golden spoke highly<\/a> of Fland, who transferred from Arkansas\u00a0after an impactful freshman campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoogie played a big role on Arkansas\u2019s team last year as a freshman and took some lumps, but I felt like [he] played some really good basketball,\u201d Golden said. \u201cHe had a great camp for us this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Fland underwent sports hernia surgery in early July. Golden noted the procedure was timed to ensure a full recovery before the season gets underway.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe kind of took advantage of the timing, and he had this at the beginning of July,\u201d Golden explained. \u201cI think he\u2019ll be ready to go for the start of the school year in August.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

He confirmed the guard is expected to be cleared for the beginning of preseason practices in late September. Meanwhile, Golden also provided an update on Brown, who is recovering from shoulder surgery. While the sophomore\u2019s return is progressing, the coach stressed that the team will be patient with his recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cAJ Brown\u2019s a guy that, you know, we\u2019re still figuring out,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\u2019s coming off shoulder surgery, so we\u2019ll see where he is and where he\u2019s ready to go when the start of the year starts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Golden added that the staff anticipates Brown will be available when practices begin, but they recognize the challenges of his specific injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019ll be ready to go once practice starts,\u201d he said. \u201cBut you know, it\u2019s an injury that\u2019s going to take some time, and the physicality piece is important.\u201d<\/p>\n

The team\u2019s depth provides a significant advantage, allowing Brown the time he needs to get back to full strength without being rushed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good thing is I think our team\u2019s deep enough that we can give him the full opportunity to recover before the start of the year,\u201d Golden said.<\/p>\n

In addition to Fland and Brown, the coach praised Princeton transfer Xaivian Lee, calling him \u201can offensive juggernaut\u201d with the ability to \u201cdribble, pass, and shoot it.\u201d Golden also highlighted returning guard Isaiah Brown and\u00a0freshmen CJ Ingram and Alex Lloyd\u00a0as players who could contribute quickly.<\/p>\n

That depth will be critical as Florida navigates a challenging nonconference schedule that includes Arizona, Duke, Miami, Florida State, and a Madison Square Garden matchup with reigning champion UConn. Golden underscored the importance of having a full and healthy roster ready for those tests.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur players want those opportunities,\u201d Golden said. \u201cThat game in New York against UConn is going to be a huge challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n
