A political source tells PEOPLE that the first lady has put a considerable amount of her focus on Barron, his social life, and his well-being during his time at New York University’s Stern School of Business.<\/p>\n
\u201cMelania watches Barron constantly in an effort to be sure nobody messes with him or bullies him, as this is a constant worry with her,\u201d the source says. \u201cShe always knows where he is and what he\u2019s doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barron started at NYU<\/a> in September 2024 as the son of a former president, and in the midst of his father, Donald Trump<\/a>‘s third presidential campaign.<\/p>\n Barron’s first year at the university was marked by Donald’s election win in November and his subsequent inauguration in January 2025 \u2014 as well as the standard social and academic challenges a college freshman might face.<\/p>\n In December 2024, a source told PEOPLE<\/a> that Melania had opted to keep Barron out of on-campus housing for the time being, and instead shared Donald’s youngest son was living in his family’s Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan.<\/p>\n \u201cShe will do everything she can to make sure Barron does well in school and is socially and mentally adjusted to his life as a college student,”\u00a0the political source told PEOPLE of Melania, adding that dorm living wasn’t “in the stars” for Barron “at this point.”<\/p>\n The same month, another source told PEOPLE that Barron had adjusted well socially at NYU, despite his father’s political position and New York City’s strong Democratic tilt.<\/p>\n “He\u2019s tall and handsome,” the source said. “A lot of people seem to think he\u2019s pretty attractive \u2014 yes, even liberal people like him.”<\/p>\n ABC\/Jose Alvarado, Jr.<\/p>\n Barron Trump attends the second inauguration of his father, Donald Trump, on Jan. 20, 2025<\/p>\n Though Melania takes the job of being a mother seriously, she has plenty else on her plate while her son is away at school.<\/p>\n \u201cMelania is quiet and behind the scenes but always busy with something she is pursuing herself,\u201d the latest political source tells PEOPLE, adding that she divided her time this summer between New York City, New Jersey and Washington.<\/p>\n Recently, she has been “busy with her documentary,” the source says, which is scheduled to release in partnership with Amazon Prime Video later in 2025.<\/p>\n She also made news in August for writing a personal letter<\/a> to Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a>, urging him to stop the invasion of Ukraine on behalf of innocent children who have been caught up in the violence.<\/p>\n The source says the letter was “not a departure for her,” adding, “It\u2019s an issue close to her heart.
