Vivo unveiled its first mixed reality (MR) headset, the Vision Discovery Edition, to mark the company\u2019s 30th anniversary. The launch makes Vivo the first smartphone brand in China to enter the MR space. <\/p>\n
Much like the Apple Vision Pro, the Vivo Vision features a curved glass visor, an external battery pack and downward-pointing cameras. However, Vivo goes a step further with more removable fabric light seals (four sizes versus one customised to your face from Apple) and foam padding options (eight versus Apple\u2019s two). <\/p>\n
Though the Vivo Vision and Apple Vision Pro both use dual 8K micro-OLED displays, the Vivo Vision\u2019s displays have a higher resolution of 3840 x 3552 pixels. Colour reproduction is also better with the Vivo Vision covering 94% of the DCI-P3 gamut, slightly higher than the Vision Pro\u2019s 92%. <\/p>\n
Vivo also takes aim at the Vision Pro\u2019s bulky form factor. The company claims its Vision headset is \u201c26% smaller than the industry average, improving overall comfort\u201d \u2013 the Vision is significantly lighter at 398g, well below the 650g Vision Pro, which early adopters criticised for causing neck strain and discomfort<\/a>. <\/p>\n On the software aspect, the Vivo Vision runs on the company\u2019s proprietary OriginOS Vision which offers an ultra-low latency of 13ms. The OriginOS Vision supports intuitive finger gestures, enabled by the device\u2019s 1.5\u00b0 high-precision eye-tracking technology which is capable of 26\u00b0 of freedom in fingertip gesture recognition and a vertical tracking range of 175\u00b0. <\/p>\n The OriginOS Vision also supports 3D video recordings, spatial photos, spatial audio and can even generate a 120-foot theatre screen for media entertainment. Under the hood of the Vivo Vision is the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, first introduced in January 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n Availability and pricing<\/p>\n The Vivo Vision headset is currently only available in China. It is priced at 10,000 yuan (~S$1,789), which is almost one-third the retail price of the Apple Vision Pro<\/a>.<\/p>\n
