cruised to a first-round win<\/a> at the US Open on Monday 6-3, 7-6 (6), 6-3 \u2014\u00a0 but rather had to do with the new haircut of his friend and fellow competitor Carlos Alcaraz.\u00a0<\/p>\nThe US Open posted a video of a short clip of Tiafoe seeing Alcaraz\u2019s new cut with a less-than-approving look.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alcaraz was sporting a new buzzcut when the American tennis star saw him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, it\u2019s horrible. It\u2019s terrible,\u201d Tiafoe said when asked about the clip during his post-match press conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the jokes didn\u2019t stop there when a reporter asked if Tiafoe would make such a big change during a Grand Slam tournament, risking messing with his mojo.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, it\u2019s definitely terrible. He\u2019s my guy though. It\u2019s funny. I looked at him and I was like, \u2018I guess you\u2019re aerodynamic,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cJuan Carlos \u2018Mosquito\u2019 was laughing. He was like, Yeah, he\u2019s faster than he already was. I was like, Well, that\u2019s a problem. Yeah, I don\u2019t know who told him that it\u2019s good. I don\u2019t know who told him to do that, but it\u2019s terrible. From a guy who gets haircuts week in, week out, and prides myself on good haircuts, it\u2019s horrendous.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, it\u2019s Carlos, and that\u2019s my guy. But yeah, he needs to get with me. He needs to get with me for sure.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The new cut is a stark contrast to what Alcaraz typically rocks, and it was only a week since he had hair while competing at the Cincinnati Open.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, the new look may not have been entirely his idea after a clip of him showed the Spaniard talking to golf star Rory McIlroy and telling him that he \u201cjust got a haircut that I struggled with. I had to start fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n
