The U.S. State Department declined to comment on the report, which POLITICO could not independently verify.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a request for clarification from POLITICO, a State Department spokesperson said Monday: &#8220;We are monitoring increasing censorship in Europe with great concern but have no further information to provide at this time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Reuters did not identify which EU or member country officials could find themselves in the firing line, and said no final decision on going ahead with the measures has been made.<\/p>\n<p>The Digital Services Act regulates online platforms, like social media and e-commerce, as well as search engines. Those with more than 45 million users in the EU, including Meta&#8217;s Facebook and Instagram, TikTok and X, have to follow strict rules about assessing and mitigating important risks, like the spread of misinformation and harm to minors.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/13255422-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7055763\"  \/>Concessions from the EU on the DSA, which the White House was reportedly pushing for, did not materialize in the EU-U.S. trade deal. | Jim Lo Scalzo\/EPA<\/p>\n<p>But U.S. Republicans, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/us-vice-president-jd-vance-attack-europe-migration-free-speech\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vice President JD Vance<\/a>,\u00a0have said the law institutionalizes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/us-congress-eu-digital-services-act-foreign-censorship\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">censorship<\/a>\u00a0regime that stifles free speech. <\/p>\n<p>The State Department has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/us-europe-free-speech-trade-talk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">launched<\/a>\u00a0a campaign against the regulation.
