The company has been <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/26\/meta-hires-key-openai-researcher-to-work-on-ai-reasoning-models\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">poaching AI researchers<\/a>, while Zuckerberg announced on Monday that Meta is building a <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/07\/14\/mark-zuckerberg-says-meta-is-building-a-5gw-ai-data-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">5-gigawatt data center called Hyperion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The urgency is palpable. As SemiAnalysis <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/semianalysis.com\/2025\/07\/11\/meta-superintelligence-leadership-compute-talent-and-data\/#the-more-you-buy-the-more-you-save-obbb-edition\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> last week and Business Insider <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/meta-mark-zuckerberg-building-ai-data-centers-tents-catch-up-2025-7\" target=\"_blank\">noted<\/a>, Meta is so eager to boost its computing power that it\u2019s literally erecting tents for temporary data center capacity while its facilities are still under construction. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are all signs that Meta wants to build up its AI capacity faster after falling behind competitors like OpenAI, xAI, and Google \u2014 and that Zuckerberg isn\u2019t willing to wait for typical construction timelines to close the gap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis design isn\u2019t about beauty or redundancy. It\u2019s about getting compute online fast!\u201d SemiAnalysis said in its report. \u201cFrom prefabricated power and cooling modules to ultra-light structures, speed is of the essence as there is no backup generation (ie, no diesel generators in sight),\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for its Hyperion data center, Meta spokesperson Ashley Gabriel <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/07\/14\/mark-zuckerberg-says-meta-is-building-a-5gw-ai-data-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tells TechCrunch<\/a> that it will be located in Louisiana and will likely have a capacity of 2 gigawatts by 2030.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Meta and CEO Mark Zuckerberg are in a hurry to build their superintelligence tech.
