{"id":111761,"date":"2025-08-26T17:20:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T17:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/111761\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T17:20:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T17:20:10","slug":"mexico-city-intl-to-return-slots-to-united-states-carriers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/111761\/","title":{"rendered":"M\u00e9xico City Int\u2019l to return slots to United States carriers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airlines\/UA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United Airlines<\/a> (UA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/4368\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago O&#8217;Hare<\/a>)  has informed the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) that Mexican officials have told several US carriers that slots that had been cut at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/2959\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">M\u00e9xico City International<\/a> will be returned to them.<\/p>\n<p>While discussing the DOT\u2019s tentative proposal to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/news\/156299-us-touts-ending-aeromexico-delta-jv-over-mex-slots-dispute\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">withdraw antitrust immunity<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airlines\/DL\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Delta Air Lines<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airlines\/AM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aerom\u00e9xico<\/a> joint venture, United said it would take no position on it, but \u201cMexican officials informed IATA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airlines\/AA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">American Airlines<\/a>, Delta, and United on an August 18, 2025, call that slots confiscated in the Winter 2022\/2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/news\/131692-govt-defers-mexico-city-intl-slot-cuts-to-1q24\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and Summer 2023 seasons<\/a> will be reinstated.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The carrier did not provide more details regarding the return of the slots, how many each airline will receive, or when they will be available. <\/p>\n<p>The Mexican authorities cut hourly slots from 61 to 44 currently as a measure to address the levels of saturation at M\u00e9xico City International Airport. In parallel, it forced all cargo carriers out of the airport and relocated them to the newer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/airports\/5560\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">M\u00e9xico City Felipe Angeles<\/a>, which was built and inaugurated during the administration of former president Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador, over a cancelled new M\u00e9xico City International Airport. <\/p>\n<p>These measures have, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ch-aviation.com\/news\/136542-dot-rejects-renewal-of-aeromexico-delta-antitrust-immunity\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">for years<\/a>, angered US authorities, who believe that Mexico has disregarded the 2015 US-Mexico Air Transport Agreement.
