{"id":112916,"date":"2025-08-27T04:21:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T04:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/112916\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T04:21:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T04:21:08","slug":"jessica-pegula-chooses-the-country-where-she-would-like-tennis-to-have-a-fifth-grand-slam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/112916\/","title":{"rendered":"Jessica Pegula chooses the country where she would like\u00a0tennis to have a fifth Grand Slam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The four Grand Slams are the most prestigious tournaments in tennis, as players from around the world dream of major glory.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, players head to Melbourne, Paris, London, and New York in a bid to win Grand Slam titles on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA Tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/madison-keys-sends-social-media-message-after-beating-aryna-sabalenka-in-the-australian-open-final\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Madison Keys won her first Grand Slam<\/a> at the Australian Open, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final, before the Belarusian lost another final, to Coco Gauff, in Paris.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2195838409-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Aryna Sabalenka looks on as Madison Keys celebrates with the Australian Open title\" class=\"wp-image-62017\" \/>Photo by Graham Denholm\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Then at Wimbledon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/wimbledon-told-they-need-to-make-a-rule-change-to-the-womens-final-after-iga-swiateks-demolition-of-amanda-anisimova\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iga Swiatek won the title, taking down Amanda Anisimova<\/a> to become a six-time Grand Slam champion.<\/p>\n<p>The stars of the women\u2019s game are now at Flushing Meadows, battling it out for the final Grand Slam of the year.<\/p>\n<p>But what if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> wasn\u2019t the last major of the season? One top-five WTA star has now shared her thoughts on a hypothetical fifth Grand Slam and suggested where she would like to see it played.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Pegula thinks it would be \u2018pretty cool\u2019 if the fifth Grand Slam was played in Japan<\/p>\n<p>During the debut episode of \u2018The Player\u2019s Box Podcast\u2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jessica-pegula\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jessica Pegula<\/a> said where she would want the fifth Grand Slam to be played.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomewhere in North America, preferably! But that\u2019s just selfishly for me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr what about Japan? That would be kind of cool. I know it\u2019s far, but you could vacation out of there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would have a cool cultural take on it, because it\u2019s so different, and I feel like every Slam is so different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Japan would be pretty cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"615\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Japan currently hosts two events on the WTA calendar, one at the WTA 250 level and the other at the WTA 500 level.<\/p>\n<p>Japan Open (Osaka, Japan) \u2013 WTA 250Pan Pacific Open (Tokyo, Japan) \u2013 WTA 500<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Suzan Lamens won the Japan Open, before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/qinwen-zheng-says-what-she-now-needs-to-do-at-the-wta-finals-after-winning-the-tokyo-open-title\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Qinwen Zheng won the Pan Pacific Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While it would be interesting to see either event upgraded to Grand Slam status, it is, in all reality, highly unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>The four-Grand Slam system is probably here to stay, and if there were to be a fifth Grand Slam added, the chances are it wouldn\u2019t go to Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Rumors continue to circulate around Saudi Arabia\u2019s involvement in tennis, following the success of the 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta-finals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA Finals<\/a> in Riyadh.<\/p>\n<p>The top eight players fought for the biggest prize in the history of the women\u2019s game last year, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/coco-gauff-reacts-to-winning-the-biggest-prize-money-ever-in-wta-history-as-shes-asked-what-shell-spend-the-millions-on\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" Arabia, if anywhere at all\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Pegula\u2019s Grand Slam record<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old would welcome a fifth Grand Slam, but how has she performed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/australian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australian Open<\/a>, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open throughout her as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/andy-roddick-reacts-as-aryna-sabalenka-beats-jessica-pegula-to-win-the-us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pegula lost 5-7, 5-7, to Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> in the final.<\/p>\n<p>Looking to go one better in 2025, Pegula made a strong start, taking down Egypt\u2019s Mayar Sherif in straight sets to book her place in the second
