Emma Raducanu and Cameron Norrie return to action at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday where the British pair will be hoping to progress to the third round at the US Open.<\/p>\n

Raducanu faces Janice Tjen of Indonesia on Louis Armstrong Stadium at around 4pm (BST), while Norrie will play Francisco Comesan in the second match on Court 5.<\/p>\n

British tennis fans will be hoping the pair can provide some much-needed relief following a disappointing day that ended with Katie Boulter, Billy Harris, Francesca Jones and Sonay Kartal all being eliminated in the first round.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, four-time US Open champion Novak Djokovic opens proceedings on Arthur Ashe Stadium against Zachary Svajda, before 2022 winner Carlos Alcaraz faces Mattia Bellucci in the match of the evening session on the same court.<\/p>\n

Jack Draper will play Zizou Bergs of Belgium in the second round on Thursday.<\/p>\n

When does the US Open start?<\/p>\n

Following the mixed doubles event on August 18 and 19, the singles competition got under way on Sunday, August 24. The tournament follows the Australian and French Open in becoming a 15-day competition. It means the men\u2019s and women\u2019s singles first rounds play out over the opening three days.<\/p>\n

Mixed doubles competition<\/p>\n

Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula missed out on a place<\/a> in the US Open mixed doubles final after a semi-final defeat by Iga Swiatek and Casper Rudd.<\/p>\n

Swiatek and Rudd went on to lose the final to double specialists Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori. The Italians beat Swiatek and Rudd 6-3, 5-7 (10-6) winning four matches over two days to earn $1m (\u00a3740,000) \u2013 a huge raise over their earnings in New York last year in a format that looked nothing like this one.<\/p>\n

British No 1 Draper and American Pegula went into the event \u2013 played for the first time in the week before the main tournament \u2013 as the top seeds and eased into the last four on Tuesday with two wins, one against Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> in the first round.<\/p>\n

The radical change to the event with the aim of attracting the big-name players usually missing from grand slam doubles has been successful but controversial.<\/p>\n

Errani and Vavassori were among the many critics of the changes to the event that shut out every other traditional doubles pairing, but had nothing but smiles \u2013 and plenty of hugs \u2013 after building a quick lead in the match tie-break and holding on in front of a large crowd inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.<\/p>\n

How to buy US Open tickets<\/p>\n

You can buy tickets here<\/a>. Some of the hottest tickets are likely to be for matches involving two-times champion Venus Williams, who has been handed a wild card into the tournament at the age of 45. The seven-time major winner made a comeback earlier this summer after more than a year out of the sport. She will become the oldest singles player to compete at Flushing Meadows since Renee Richards, aged 47 in 1981.<\/p>\n

What is the US Open prize money?<\/p>\n

American tennis chiefs shocked the sport by announcing a 20 per cent increase in prize money. Despite a concerted campaign from leading players to squeeze more money out of the biggest tournaments, few had expected such a dramatic step-change.<\/p>\n

The United States Tennis Association has created a total prize pot of $90m (\u00a367m). The champions of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s singles event will each receive a hefty $5m, or \u00a33.75m.<\/p>\n

Such large sums threaten to make Wimbledon look underpowered. The most recent prize pot at SW19 stood at \u00a353,500,000. The All England Club seemed satisfied with this figure, which represented a seven per cent increase on 2024\u2019s sums. But they now find themselves fully 25 per cent behind their transatlantic rivals.<\/p>\n
