Kirkland Parks and Community Services<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile they may look interesting, snapping turtles are invasive and can be aggressive,\u201d the park service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/kirklandparks\/posts\/pfbid0iJpLSRaxuk7EEyJvG7mAHLWB8fsF2STpYPed6BwJrQbCwi1tGZiDbBujLRWb3pAPl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">shared in a Facebook post Monday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir powerful jaws can cause serious injury, so if you see one, please keep your distance and alert a lifeguard or park staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The park is located in a Seattle suburb on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. Kirkland Parks and Community Services<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DNyZ1pv3p8h\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Photos showed<\/a> Kirkland lifeguard supervisor Dani hoisting the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/01\/texas-fisherman-reels-in-massive-alligator-snapping-turtle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">hulking dinosaur-like reptile<\/a> as it bared its snarling jaws wide open. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to Dani, our lifeguard team, ACO Arnold and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife for keeping the beach fun and safe for everyone!\u201d the government agency said. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/10\/news\/invasive-alligator-snapping-turtle-native-to-florida-rescued-out-of-lake-in-england\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ferocious prehistoric-looking turtle<\/a>, with its spiked shell, beak-like jaws and primitive face, is considered an invasive species and is prohibited in Washington state.<\/p>\n<p>The beastly species \u2014 found in rivers, canals and lakes in the southeastern US as well as in Central and South America \u2014 can live up to 100 years, grow as long as 6 feet, and weigh as much as 220 pounds, according to National Geographic.<\/p>\n<p>The carnivorous creature also has a voracious appetite and boasts a vicious bite \u2014 packing about 36 pounds of force, enough to crush bone.<\/p>\n<p>It remains unknown where the turtle came from or what its fate will be now that it\u2019s been caught.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A snap decision led to a big catch.
