{"id":114466,"date":"2025-08-27T19:32:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T19:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/114466\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T19:32:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T19:32:08","slug":"jeff-koons-returns-to-gagosian-after-departing-four-years-ago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/114466\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeff Koons Returns to Gagosian After Departing Four Years Ago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/gagosian\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gagosian\" data-tag=\"gagosian\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gagosian<\/a> will once again represent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/jeff-koons\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jeff-koons\" data-tag=\"jeff-koons\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Koons<\/a>, the star sculptor who left the mega-gallery to join Pace\u2019s roster in 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWednesday\u2019s announcement completes a return that began in May with a solo presentation held by Gagosian at the Frieze New York fair. At Frieze, Koons presented three sculptures from his \u201cHulk Elvis\u201d\u00a0series. All three of the works came from the artist\u2019s personal collection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn 2021, when Koons left Gagosian, he was also represented by David Zwirner, which he appears not to have rejoined this time. Artnet News\u2018s Kenny Schachter\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.artnet.com\/market\/kenny-schachter-koons-lvmh-crypto-hack-2553293\">reported last year<\/a> that Koons split with Pace after a new series of Meissen-inspired sculptures proved too costly for the gallery to support. Schachter reported that Pace enlisted investors for the venture, sinking between $50 million and $100 million into the venture. But when additional funds were needed to finish fabrication, the investors balked. Koons walked away from Pace soon after, Shachter said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKoons\u2019s critical star has faded in recent years, and his market stardom has also waned. Though his sculpture Rabbit\u00a0(1986) remains the most expensive work sold at auction by a living artist, fetching $91.1 million in 2019, his sales fell greatly within the past few years. But Artnet News <a href=\"https:\/\/news.artnet.com\/market\/jeff-koonss-art-is-on-the-moon-but-his-prices-have-cratered-can-power-players-reignite-his-market-2436175\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported in 2024<\/a> that certain powerful collectors and dealers were working to help change that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tGagosian has staged 13 solo exhibitions by the artist in two decades of representation, at its Beverly Hills, London, Hong Kong, and New York locations.
