\n\tPedro Pascal<\/a> is circling the lead role in director Todd Haynes<\/a>\u2018 gay romance feature De Noche, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe project made headlines last August when Joaquin Phoenix<\/a> dropped out of the starring role<\/a> just five days before filming was set to begin in Guadalajara, Mexico. Danny Ramirez has been attached to co-star in the movie that focuses on an intense gay romance in the 1930s.<\/p>\n

\n\tChristine Vachon and Pam Koffler are producing for Killer Films. Pascal does not have a deal in place and has been eyed for the role since late last year, though it is now just coming to public light.<\/p>\n

\n\tPhoenix initially brought the project to Haynes and developed it with the filmmaker before getting cold feet. The actor has not publicly discussed the reasons behind his departure, with a source previously telling THR that the movie\u2019s team was \u201cdevastated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPascal recently starred with Phoenix in Ari Aster\u2019s Eddington and was also seen this summer in Materialists and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Pascal\u2019s forthcoming features include next year\u2019s The Mandalorian and Grogu, and he earned his latest Emmy nomination for HBO\u2019s The Last of Us earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\n\tHaynes most recently helmed Netflix\u2019s 2023 title\u00a0May December, which starred Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman and earned an Oscar nomination for its screenplay. His previous features include\u00a0Far From Heaven,\u00a0I\u2019m Not There\u00a0and\u00a0Carol, with the latter co-starring Phoenix\u2019s longtime partner, Rooney Mara. Haynes received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay for 2002\u2019s\u00a0Far From Heaven.<\/p>\n
