TikTok star Grant Gibbs has issued an apology for \u201couting\u201d Crumbl Cookies co-founder Sawyer Hemsley.<\/p>\n

Hemsley came out publicly as gay on Monday (25 August) after rampant online speculation about his sexuality<\/a>. \u201cInstead of letting others write my story, I want to share it in my own words,\u201d the entrepreneur said.<\/p>\n

Following Hemsley\u2019s announcement, Gibbs, known as one half of the musician and influencer duo \u201cA Twink and a Redhead\u201d, took to TikTok on Tuesday (26 August) to address the string of videos he had previously posted speculating on Hemsley\u2019s sexuality.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The TikToker captioned the post, \u201cI\u2019m genuinely sorry I clocked your tea in such a massive way, but I am really happy and proud of you sister @SawyerHemsley.\u201d<\/p>\n

He began in the video, \u201cThis was not my intention to ever out somebody in this way, but girl, I am so happy for you and so proud of you.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are hot and you\u2019re going to live your best out gay open life, mama\u2026 But you guys, I did not mean for this to happen the way it did. I\u2019m so sorry, Sawyer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crumbl Cookies co-founder Sawyer Hemsley has come out as gay following online speculation, telling his followers, \u201cPeople tried to define me.\u201d Hemsley and Jason McGowan co-founded Crumbl Cookies in 2017 and have since opened \u201cmore than 1,000 locations across the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada,\u201d as per the New York Times. The brand has had high-profile collaborations with Olivia Rodrigo, the Jonas Brothers and the Kardashian-Jenner family. The company\u2019s Chief Branding Officer, Hemsley, took to Instagram on Monday (25 August) to address the rampant discussions of his sexuality, after videos and threads were shared on social media. Gibbs continued, drawing on Hemsley\u2019s material and financial success. \u201cI think you\u2019ll be fine, girl.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He did \u201cadmit\u201d that speculating about his sexuality to his 218,000 followers was \u201cnasty of me\u201d and alleged that he \u201cdidn\u2019t mean for it to end up like this\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Did Grant Gibbs out Sawyer Hemsley?<\/p>\n

Gibbs maintains<\/a> that he was commenting on \u201cpublic information\u201d and was simply \u201cjoining a conversation already being had\u201d online. He did add that he felt \u201cbad my video went so viral\u201d.<\/p>\n

Before Hemsley\u2019s coming-out statement, Gibbs had posted two videos discussing the co-founder\u2019s sexuality in what was intended to be a comedic bit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a 22 August post, Gibbs expressed surprise that Hemsley was presenting as heterosexual. \u201cThat\u2019s a gay man, and I\u2019ll say it to his face,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The video was captioned, \u201cY\u2019all, I\u2019m dying. Can someone fill me in on the tea with him bc I quite literally have never seen a gayer man.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a follow-up video posted on Saturday (23 August), Gibbs doubled down on his views, claiming that Hemsley is \u201cdefinitely closeted in a way that\u2019s trying to protect his cash, which I\u2019m kind of annoyed at.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my personal gripe with this whole situation,\u201d he said, noting that while people should not be outed, he didn\u2019t regret his first video because Hemsley is \u201cliterally a co-founder of many companies and I think he can survive\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he is out to the people who need to know\u2026 I think it\u2019s just in a money way that he\u2019s not, and I think that\u2019s nasty,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n

In Hemsley\u2019s coming-out statement, he did not address Gibbs\u2019 comments.<\/p>\n
