There\u2019s been a lot of tension at this year\u2019s U.S. Open, between Daniil Medvedev yelling at a chair umpire<\/a> and Jelena Ostapenko and Taylor Townsend getting into a post-match spat<\/a>, so it\u2019s nice to see a moment of love.<\/p>\n

After sixth-seeded Ben Shelton dispatched Pablo Carreno Busta in the second round on Aug. 27, he was surprised to get a tongue-in-cheek question from girlfriend Trinity Rodman before he wrapped up his post-match press conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo how did it feel not being able to serve faster than 135 today?\u201d the United States women\u2019s national soccer team standout asked while Shelton buried his head in his hand in disbelief.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy did you give her a question?\u201d he asked someone off-screen, drawing chuckles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just know you like to serve big, and it wasn\u2019t breaking 140 today,\u201d continued Rodman, 23.<\/p>\n

Shelton, 22, then played along and answered the question.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it was cold outside, so I think that was the main reason,\u201d he said. \u201cI was focused on hitting spots and I didn\u2019t hit those spots, so maybe I should just serve bigger, but (it\u2019s) something that I\u2019ll definitely work on next time.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Shelton got up to leave, he couldn\u2019t help taking a lighthearted jab at the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll let anyone in the room at this point,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

Shelton does appreciate the effort Rodman has put in when it comes to seeing him play at the U.S. Open.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy girlfriend took the red eye from California last night to be here,\u201d he said after his opening-round victory<\/a> over Ignacio Buse on Aug. 24. \u201cYeah, we\u2019re here for the long haul and just looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

His comments came one day after Rodman played in a NWSL game for the Washington Spirit at Bay FC in San Francisco, across the country from where the U.S. Open takes place in Queens, New York. The Spirit won that game, 3-2, and currently sits in second place.<\/p>\n

Rodman also gushed about her relationship with Shelton in an Instagram post in July in which she shared images of them together<\/a>, along with clips of her training.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot the summer that I had in mind but still loved every moment,\u201d she wrote, referring to her recovery from a back injury<\/a>. \u201cCan\u2019t wait to be back on the field.\u201d<\/p>\n
