Coco Gauff is into the second round of this year\u2019s US Open, having edged past Ajla Tomljanovic in round one.<\/p>\n

Gauff loves the US Open fans<\/a>, who produced plenty of noise in her opener at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.<\/p>\n

The American is the third seed in the WTA<\/a> singles event, but needed almost three hours to beat Tomljanovic 6-4, 6-7(2-7), 7-5.<\/p>\n

Gauff<\/a> claimed her first of two Grand Slam titles at the US Open<\/a> back in 2023, lifting the trophy aged just 19.<\/p>\n

And she\u2019s now back to winning ways at the event, with Darren Cahill<\/a> having really enjoyed her opening battle with Tomljanovic.<\/p>\n

But many tennis fans were not impressed by the opinion from the coach of Jannik Sinner<\/a>, having heard his verdict on ESPN that it was one of the \u201cbest women\u2019s matches we\u2019ve seen for the entire year\u201d.<\/p>\n

One reacted to that claim on X<\/a>, saying: \u201cThat would be inaccurate, I watched it,\u201d with another noting: \u201cThey had long rallies which made it entertaining but there were too many errors as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another fan agreed, saying: \u201cWonder where he set the bar. He didn\u2019t see [Emma] Raducanu v [Aryna] Sabalenka at Wimbledon, then?!\u201d<\/p>\n

Other fans in agreement said: \u201cBetter than Sabalenka v Raducanu I don\u2019t think so but it was very good,\u201d and \u201cThe problem here is that they believe the things they say.\u201d<\/p>\n

And further reaction arrived from others who wrote: \u201cMaybe he saw it with his eyes closed\u201d and \u201cWith 60 unforced errors from the winner? Drama, maybe, but quality?\u201d<\/p>\n

Coco Gauff wins error-strewn US Open match against Ajla Tomljanovic <\/p>\n

Many fans did enjoy the drama of the meeting between the WTA duo, but at the same time were not too impressed by the quality.<\/p>\n

During their lengthy battle at Arthur Ashe, Tomljanovic hit 12 winners and 56 unforced errors, with Gauff\u2019s winners and errors tallies standing at 29 and 59 respectively.<\/p>\n

Up next for world number three Gauff is 2024 Olympic silver medalist Donna Vekic, who beat Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in round one.<\/p>\n

The Croatian clinched that memorable success last summer at Roland Garros, which also played host to Gauff\u2019s stunning French Open title earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Vekic is currently ranked 49th in the world, with the four-time WTA title winner having once reached 17th place.<\/p>\n

She has met Gauff twice in her impressive career so far, with both players having each secured one win so far.<\/p>\n

The Croatian defeated the American en route to that superb silver medal, winning their round of 16 tie 7-6(7), 6-2.<\/p>\n

But Gauff exacted her revenge at the 2025 United Cup, defeating her WTA Tour rival 6-4, 6-2 in Australia.<\/p>\n
