singles at this year\u2019s US Open, but she\u2019s still picking up wins elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Playing the new-look mixed doubles event, Williams lost her opening match alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/reilly-opelka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reilly Opelka<\/a> against the hard-hitting duo of Andrey Rublev and Karolina Muchova.<\/p>\n<p>Turning her attention to singles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/venus-williams-posts-exit-message-on-instagram-after-losing-in-the-first-round-at-the-us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Williams fell to Muchova<\/a> once more, losing 3-6, 6-2, 1-6 on Arthur Ashe Stadium.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"718\" loading=\"lazy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> in the women\u2019s doubles, partnering Leylah Fernandez.<\/p>\n<p>Defeating the eighth seeds, Lyudmyla Kichenok and Ellen Perez, Williams and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/leylah-fernandez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fernandez<\/a> booked their place in round two.<\/p>\n<p>After the match, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/venus-williams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Williams<\/a> shared what she always tells people about her doubles game, which nobody believes.<\/p>\n<p>Venus Williams always tells people she\u2019s \u2018not good at doubles\u2019, but nobody believes her<\/p>\n<p>During her post-match press conference, Williams made a surprise admission about her doubles game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always tell people that I am not good at doubles, but nobody believes me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think traditionally doubles players are crossing and moving, and I don\u2019t necessarily do all that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPush comes to shove, and I will do what I have to, but I am a singles player, so when I walk out there, I tell myself just play singles and try that method.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI try not to be something that I am not, so to be honest, it\u2019s an area that I am not that comfortable in being on the doubles court, but I think you get to some points in the match where you stop thinking about it, and then you just zone in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" producing an impressive display on Louis Armstrong Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Venus Williams and Leylah Fernandez defeat Lyudmyla Kichenok and Ellen Perez, 7-6, 6-3<\/p>\n<p>She and Fernandez will return for the second round on Saturday, August 30, to play Eri Hozumi and Ulrikke Eikeri.<\/p>\n<p>Williams, at 45 years old, will no doubt give it her all to qualify for the third round, as she continues her search for a 15th Grand Slam doubles title.<\/p>\n<p>Venus Williams\u2019 remarkable record in Grand Slam doubles<\/p>\n<p>Partnering with her sister, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/serena-williams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Serena Williams<\/a>, the WTA Tour veteran contested 14 Grand Slam doubles finals during Court.<\/p>\n<p>Williams also held the number-one ranking in doubles for eight weeks, between June and August 2010.<\/p>\n<p>To suggest Williams is anything other than an elite doubles player is outrageous, as her numbers speak for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The Williams sisters sit fifth in the list of Open Era Grand Slam women\u2019s doubles champions, behind some of the discipline\u2019s
