Some residents argued the location is not the right fit. Topgolf says the venue will be smaller than its Roseville location.<\/p>\n

SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014 Sacramento\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0Planning and Design Commission<\/a>\u00a0has unanimously approved plans for a\u00a0Topgolf<\/a>\u00a0facility in\u00a0Sacramento’s\u00a0<\/a>Natomas<\/a>\u00a0neighborhood, clearing the way for the sports and entertainment complex despite concerns from some neighbors.<\/p>\n

The two-story project calls for 80 hitting bays<\/a>, a restaurant, bar and event spaces near Venture Oaks Way, close to West El Camino Avenue and Interstate 5. Plans also include 324 parking spaces, the removal of 59 trees and the planting of 226 new ones.<\/p>\n

City staff said the site can accommodate extra traffic because it was previously zoned for a 12-story office building.<\/p>\n

Topgolf representative Ryan Hooper said this location will be smaller than the Roseville Topgolf and is expected to create about 300 jobs and generate $150 million to $250 million in economic benefits.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I understand business is something that can be really great for an area, I feel that this is not the area for this development,\u201d said Michelle Shaw, who lives nearby.<\/p>\n

Planning commissioners said design conditions addressed those concerns.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI do believe the project conditions and design elements provide pretty good safeguards,\u201d said commission member Julio Lamas.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Topgolf adjusted some of its plans.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other issue that came up was lighting,\u201d Hooper said. \u201cIt was suggested early on that the lighting was attached to the top of the poles that reach 156 feet. However, that\u2019s not what we are doing. The lighting is attached to the building itself, specifically designed to cast light downward and out towards the freeway, not towards the homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

No date has been announced for when construction could begin.<\/p>\n

Planning Commission Vice Chair Robert Chase said that he does not expect the project to negatively impact property values.<\/p>\n
