Alexander Erler and Robert Galloway defeat Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool in straight sets Friday at Flushing Meadows.

Julian Cash<\/a> and Lloyd Glasspool<\/a> arrived at the US Open<\/a> with all the momentum in the world. The Britons had won 22 of their past 23 matches and recently qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals<\/a> together for the first time.<\/p>\n

That did not stop the Wimbledon<\/a> champions, winners of six titles this season, from suffering a shock early exit in New York. Alexander Erler<\/a> and Robert Galloway<\/a>, competing together for just the third time, ousted the tournament favourites 7-6(6), 7-6(4) in one hour and 35 minutes.<\/p>\n

\"It<\/a><\/p>\n

There were no break points for either team in the match, with Erler and Galloway winning 87 per cent of their first-serve points. The unseeded duo only put 52 per cent of its returns in play, but did well in the key moments to win the tie-breaks.<\/p>\n

Cincinnati Open<\/a> champions Nikola Mektic<\/a> and Rajeev Ram<\/a> maintained their form with a 7-5, 7-6(4) victory against Guido Andreozzi<\/a> and Manuel Guinard<\/a>. Also moving on during the first day of men’s doubles action were ninth seeds Hugo Nys<\/a>\/Edouard Roger-Vasselin<\/a> and 13th seeds Sander Arends<\/a>\/Luke Johnson<\/a>.<\/p>\n
