Emma Heming Willis<\/a> had a sixth sense she would need to push back against the critics.<\/p>\n

After the 47-year-old revealed in the ABC documentary special Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey that her husband Bruce Willis<\/a> is living in a separate home<\/a> due to his frontotemporal dementia (FTD) battle, she addressed the negative comments she received for living apart.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I knew is that by sharing some of our intimate information that we would see these two camps,\u201d Emma said in an Aug. 29 Instagram<\/a> video. \u201cIt would be people with an opinion versus people with an actual experience.”<\/p>\n

Noting that those with an opinion were \u201cquick\u201d to criticize, she added, “That is what caregivers are up against. Judgement from others.”<\/p>\n

Amid the backlash, Emma\u2014who shares daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, with Bruce\u2014explained that she re-read a section from her upcoming book to encourage herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone will have an opinion, but you have to remind yourself that most don\u2019t have the experience to back it up,\u201d she shared. “Even if someone is closely familiar with dementia or the condition you are caring for, they aren’t in your home, so they don’t know how your person is behaving or your family dynamics.” <\/p>\n

She concluded, “The truth is that the opinions are so loud and they’re so noisy. But if they don’t have the experience of this, they don’t get a say, and they definitely don’t get a vote.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Emma described in the ABC special that Bruce\u2014who is also dad to daughters Rumer Willis, 36, Scout Willis, 33, and Tallulah Willis, 31, with ex-wife Demi Moore<\/a>\u2014receives around-the-clock care and is visited by his family and friends constantly. <\/p>\n

“It’s our second home, so the girls have their things there,” she told Diane Sawyer in the TV interview. “It is a house that is filled with love and warmth and care and laughter. It’s been beautiful to see that\u2014to see how many of Bruce’s friends continue to show up for him. They bring in life and fun.”<\/p>\n

And despite it being \u201cone of the hardest decisions\u201d Emma has had to make during Bruce\u2019s treatment\u2014and one she made due to FTD patients being triggered by loud noises, which are more frequent in their home with kids\u2014she is focused on the positives. <\/p>\n

“When we are with him, he lights up,” she explained. “He’s holding our hands, we’re kissing him. We’re hugging him. He is reciprocating. He is into it.”<\/p>\n

Emma continued, “That’s all I need. I don’t need him to know that I am his wife, we were married on this day. I don’t need any of that. I just want to feel that I have a connection with him, and I do.”<\/p>\n
