VENICE, Italy (AP) \u2014 Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi arrived at the Venice Film Festival<\/a> Saturday for the world premiere of Guillermo del Toro\u2019s \u201cFrankenstein,\u201d<\/a> the kickoff to what\u2019s expected to be the film\u2019s major awards season push.<\/p>\n

Isaac plays Victor Frankenstein and Elordi is the monster in this adaptation of Mary Shelley\u2019s classic novel, which del Toro has been dreaming about making for decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the movie that I\u2019ve been in training for 30 years to do,\u201d del Toro told The Associated Press recently.<\/p>\n

A few hours before the premiere, del Toro said he feels like he\u2019s in \u201cpostpartum depression\u201d now that he\u2019s completed the film, a gothic feast of sets.<\/p>\n

Isaac said before they started making \u201cFrankenstein,\u201d del Toro told him, \u201cI\u2019m creating this banquet for you, you just have to show up and eat.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThis film feels particularly personal,\u201d Isaac added. \u201dI think ultimately it is about outsiders.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elordi joined the production fairly late in the process, and threw himself into the childlike monster, who he didn\u2019t find so hard to relate to. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a vessel that I could put every part of myself into,\u201d Elordi said. \u201cIn so many ways the creature that is on screen in that movie is the purest form of myself, he\u2019s more me than I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

There may be some disruption outside of the red carpet as an anti-war march is planned to take place in the evening, ending near the festival. Organizers hope to turn the spotlight to the war in Gaza.<\/a><\/p>\n

The last time del Toro was at Venice was with \u201cThe Shape of Water\u201d in 2017,<\/a> which won the festival\u2019s top prize that year before going on to pick up the best picture and best director Oscar in 2018. Netflix does not yet have a best picture winner in their arsenal, but is betting big on \u201cFrankenstein.\u201d Del Toro\u2019s last film, \u201cGuillermo del Toro\u2019s Pinocchio,\u201d won the streamer its first best animated film Oscar.<\/a><\/p>\n

Like \u201cThe Shape of Water,\u201d \u201cFrankenstein\u201d is up for the big awards at Venice, where it will be competing with films like Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019s \u201cBugonia,\u201d<\/a>Kathryn Bigelow\u2019s \u201cA House of Dynamite,\u201d<\/a> Park Chan-wook\u2019s \u201cNo Other Choice\u201d and Kaouther Ben Hania\u2019s \u201cThe Voice of Hind Rajab.\u201d Winners will be announced by the Alexander Payne-led jury on Sept. 6.<\/p>\n

Netflix plans to release \u201cFrankenstein\u201d in theaters on Oct. 17, before it comes to streaming Nov. 7.<\/p>\n
