Belmont business owner Carol Hanlon has been crowned the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia champion.<\/p>\n
The award was presented at the COSBOA Summit Gala in Melbourne and recognises exceptional contributions to the small business sector through leadership, advocacy and practical impact.<\/p>\n
Ms Hanlon is the founding CEO of the Belmont Business Enterprise Centre Inc. and founder\/CEO of the Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre WA Inc.<\/p>\n
She was chosen for her work supporting small businesses for more than five decades, with initiatives spanning across local, national and international levels.<\/p>\n
Since establishing the Belmont Business Enterprise Centre in 1994, Ms Hanlon has helped more than 36,500 small businesses and start-ups and has delivered more than 45 major projects focusing on women in business, Indigenous and migrant entrepreneurship, cyber security, sustainability, and international trade.<\/p>\n
Her Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre WA, launched in 1998, has helped more than 7500 designers and creative industry businesses across Australia and beyond.<\/p>\n
COSBOA chair Matthew Addison praised Ms Hanlon\u2019s lifelong dedication to small business.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe has opened doors for thousands of entrepreneurs, especially women, Indigenous Australians and migrants. She is a true champion for small business and an inspiration to us all.\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ms Hanlon\u2019s key achievements including founding the Belmont and WA Small Business awards, now in their 32nd year, creating the design edge Innovation Festival, and hosting the first Women Economic Forum in Australia.<\/p>\n
Ms Hanlon said she does what she does to \u201cmake a difference\u201d to entrepreneurs and small businesses, whether it\u2019s local, State-wide, nationally or globally.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy passion is the economic empowerment of women and the creative, fashion and textile, clothing and footwear MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) sectors,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMicro small businesses need to know there is \u2018light at the end of the tunnel\u2019 to assist them, and MSMEs are time poor and \u2018don\u2019t know what they don\u2019t know\u2019.<\/p>\n
