\n\tFollowing backlash to his comment about Lightyear<\/a>\u2018s representation, including a response from one of the movie\u2019s writers, Snoop Dogg<\/a> is expressing his support for the LGBTQ<\/a> community.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 16x Grammy nominee recently declared that \u201call my gay friends\u201d know that he\u2019s an ally, despite his recent statement that a moment in the 2022 Disney<\/a>\/Pixar<\/a> film between Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba<\/a>) and her wife \u201cf**ked me up\u201d and made him \u201cscared to go to the movies<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons. All my gay friends [know] what\u2019s up, they been calling me with love.\u00a0My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6-yr-old. Teach me how to learn. I\u2019m not perfect,\u201d Snoop commented on a Hollywood Unlocked<\/a> clip of T.S. Madison calling him out.<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, screenwriter Lauren Gunderson defended her idea to include Alisha\u2019s wife and son in the movie. \u201cSo. I created the LIGHTYEAR lesbians,\u201d she prefaced a statement on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIn 2018, I was a writer at Pixar \u2013 such a cool place, grateful to work there, learned a ton from kind and impressive creatives,\u201d Gunderson continued. \u201cAs we wrote early versions of what became LIGHTYEAR, a key character needed a partner, and it was so natural to write \u2018she\u2019 instead of \u2018he.\u2019 As small as that detail is in the film, I knew the representational effect it could have. Small line, big deal. I was elated that they kept it.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m proud of it. To infinity. Love is love. I was one of a few writers they had on it over the years, which is very common for screenwriting of course. I had very little to do with the final script. But I was proud to see a happy queer couple (even for a few seconds) onscreen. I know they got a lot of shit for this inclusion, but stuff like this matters because beautiful love like this exists.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGunderson wrote, \u201cIt\u2019s *not* fiction. What IS fiction is Zurg and lightspeed space travel and murderous aliens and a talking robot cat (long live Sox).\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring his appearance on the It\u2019s Giving podcast, Snoop previously declared that he \u201cdidn\u2019t come in for this shit<\/a>,\u201d ranting, \u201cY\u2019all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don\u2019t have an answer for\u2026 It threw me for a loop. I\u2019m like, \u2018What part of the movie was this?\u2019 These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They\u2019re going to ask questions. I don\u2019t have the answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA Toy Story spin-off featuring the voice of Chris Evans as the titular space explorer, Lightyear features a same-sex kiss between Alisha and wife Kiko, which resulted in the movie being banned from theaters in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.<\/p>\n
