\n\tSnoop Dogg<\/a> is responding to the backlash he\u2019s received after he criticized the\u00a0LGBTQ\u00a0representation <\/a>in\u00a0Disney\u2018s 2022 animated movie\u00a0Lightyear<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe rapper and hip-hop icon\u00a0recently wrote in the comments of a Hollywood Unlocked\u00a0Instagram post<\/a>, which featured Ts Madison calling him out, \u201cI was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAll my gay friends [know] what\u2019s up, they been calling me with love.\u00a0My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6-yr-old. Teach me how to learn. I\u2019m not perfect,\u201d Snoop added.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast week, the \u201cGin and Juice\u201d rapper shared on the\u00a0It\u2019s Giving\u00a0Podcast<\/a>\u00a0that he was taken by surprise when he took his grandchildren to see Pixar\u2019s\u00a0Toy Story\u00a0spinoff, as it featured a montage of two women sharing a kiss and raising a child together. He said this led to a whole bunch of questions from his grandchildren about same-sex couples that he said, \u201cI don\u2019t have an answer for.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey\u2019re like, \u2018She had a baby \u2014 with another woman,\u2019\u201d Snoop\u00a0recalled<\/a>\u00a0on the podcast, which appeared to remove his comments on the matter\u00a0from the YouTube episode<\/a>. \u201cWell, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, \u2018Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She\u2019s a woman!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cDrop It Like It\u2019s Hot\u201d artist remembered thinking at the time, \u201cOh shit, I didn\u2019t come in for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.\u201d Snoop said he tried telling his grandson, \u201cHey man, just watch the movie,\u201d but that he just kept firing off questions: \u201c\u2018They just said, she and she had a baby \u2014 they\u2019re both women. How does she have a baby?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt fucked me up,\u201d Snoop added. \u201cI\u2019m like, scared to go to the movies now. Y\u2019all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don\u2019t have an answer for. It threw me for a loop. I\u2019m like, \u2018What part of the movie was this?\u2019 These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They\u2019re going to ask questions. I don\u2019t have the answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLightyear, the origin story of the human Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear, included an LGBTQ relationship between Buzz\u2019s best friend and commander, Alisha Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba), and her wife, Kiko, with glimpses of their life as a couple and an onscreen kiss.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing Snoop\u2019s critique of the animated pic, screenwriter Lauren Gunderson defended her decision to include the queer couple in the film.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was one of a few writers they had on it over the years, which is very common for screenwriting of course. I had very little to do with the final script,\u201d she wrote on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cBut I was proud to see a happy queer couple (even for a few seconds) onscreen. I know they got a lot of shit for this inclusion, but stuff like this matters because beautiful love like this exists.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGunderson continued, \u201cIt\u2019s *not* fiction. What IS fiction is Zurg and lightspeed space travel and murderous aliens and a talking robot cat (long live Sox).\u201d<\/p>\n
