Pollock Painting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/lawsuit\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lawsuit\" data-tag=\"lawsuit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lawsuit<\/a> filed earlier this month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/phillips\/\" id=\"auto-tag_phillips\" data-tag=\"phillips\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Phillips<\/a>, one of the world\u2019s top auction houses, claimed that a billionaire\u2019s son failed to pay $14.5 million for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/jackson-pollock\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jackson-pollock\" data-tag=\"jackson-pollock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jackson Pollock<\/a> painting that sold in New York this past November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe lawsuit, filed in the Supreme Court of New York, alleges that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/david-mimran\/\" id=\"auto-tag_david-mimran\" data-tag=\"david-mimran\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Mimran<\/a>, a film producer and the son of French businessman Jean Claude Mimran, had agreed to pay that sum as a third-party guarantee. (Photo by John Lamparski \/ AFP) (Photo by JOHN LAMPARSKI\/AFP via Getty Images)\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"\" width=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDocuments submitted alongside the lawsuit, which was first <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/12\/us-news\/david-mimran-sued-for-failing-to-pay-for-15m-jackson-pollock\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/12\/us-news\/david-mimran-sued-for-failing-to-pay-for-15m-jackson-pollock\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> by the New York Post over the weekend, suggest that the Pollock painting did not reach that amount when it came to sale. Per a third-party guarantee agreement submitted by Phillips, Mimran would have to pay just half of the $14.5 million if the work\u2019s hammer price\u2014an amount that does not account for additional fees\u2014exceeded $14.2 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Pollock piece, an early drip painting, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/phillips-54-1-m-evening-sale-drops-23-percent-from-last-year-1234724336\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Phillips sale\u2019s top lot<\/a>. Painted ca. 1948, it sold for $15.3 million with fees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAccording to Phillips, Mimran sought an extension on his payment. \u201cMimran admitted that he owed the money, but he cried poverty and asked for more time,\u201d the lawsuit reads. Then, he allegedly claimed he could not pay under that new deadline. The auction house is now seeking just under $15 million from Mimran\u2014a figure that accounts for a 10 percent interest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMimran <a href=\"https:\/\/news.artnet.com\/art-world\/phillips-david-mimran-15-million-pollock-guarantee-2667618\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told Artnet News<\/a>, \u201cI love the painting and will buy it just a little late which happens often in this market and most auction houses had to deal with this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMimran\u2019s lawyer declined to comment to ARTnews and referred ARTnews to Mimran\u2019s comments to Artnet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe is the producer of films such as Warrior (2011), an acclaimed drama starring Tom Hardy as a boxer.
