But for many, the cost is a growing concern.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/health-costs\/public-opinion-on-prescription-drugs-and-their-prices\/#:~:text=Below%20are%20some%20key%20findings,topline%20for%20full%20question%20wording\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A KFF survey<\/a> found that nearly half of adults are worried about affording their family\u2019s prescription medications. Whether or not you have insurance, there are ways to save.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOften you can pay cash for your drugs and it&#8217;s cheaper than using your co-pay for your insurance plan,\u201d said Kevin Brasler, executive editor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.checkbook.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Consumers\u2019 Checkbook<\/a>, a nonprofit consumer advocacy group.<\/p>\n<p>Online Tools That Can Help<\/p>\n<p>Brasler recommends using online marketplaces like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodrx.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GoodRx<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SingleCare<\/a>, which negotiate discounts with pharmacies and offer lower prices than many insurance plans.<\/p>\n<p>These platforms allow users to search for their prescriptions, compare prices at nearby pharmacies, and download or print coupons to use at checkout.<\/p>\n<p>NBC 5 Responds reviewed both services by searching for atorvastatin, the generic version of Lipitor \u2014 the most prescribed drug in the U.S. Prices ranged from $2 to just under $20, depending on the pharmacy.<\/p>\n<p>To use the discount, you\u2019ll need a valid prescription from your doctor and the coupon from the website. You then pay the pharmacy directly at the discounted rate.<\/p>\n<p>Are they safe?<\/p>\n<p>Using these services means sharing personal information. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.singlecare.com\/terms-and-conditions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SingleCare\u2019s terms,<\/a> the company collects data such as your name, birth date, ZIP code, and prescription details \u2014 but says it does not sell this information to third parties.<\/p>\n<p>GoodRx\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/support.goodrx.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/115005225563-GoodRx-Terms-of-Use\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">privacy policy<\/a> states it stores user data to provide targeted discounts and will delete your information upon request.<\/p>\n<p>High-Cost Prescriptions<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re prescribed a medication that costs thousands of dollars per dose and it\u2019s not fully covered by insurance, Brasler suggests contacting the drug manufacturer directly to ask about copay assistance programs.
