The first images from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple have debuted on Rolling Stone<\/a> ahead of tomorrow\u2019s trailer premiere.<\/p>\n

Filmed back-to-back with 28 Years Later, the fourth installment in the post-apocalyptic horror franchise will infect theaters on January 16, 2026 via Sony.<\/p>\n

Nia DaCosta (Candyman) directs from a script by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, 28 Years Later). Danny Boyle produces.<\/p>\n

Alfie Williams, Jack O\u2019Connell, Ralph Fiennes, Chi Lewis-Parry, Erin Kellyman, and Emma Laird star, with Cillian Murphy expected to reprise his 28 Days Later role.<\/p>\n

Picking up shortly after the events of 28 Years Later, the sequel follows Spike (Williams) as he is forced to join Sir Jimmy Crystal\u2019s (O\u2019Connell)\u00a0violent cult, which is on a collision course with Dr. Kelson (Fiennes) and his Alpha virus-carrier Samson (Lewis-Parry).<\/p>\n

\u201cMy big pitch when I was talking to the producers, including Danny and Alex, before I came on was, \u2018I\u2019m going to make this my own. I\u2019m not going to try to make a Danny Boyle movie.\u2019 Because that\u2019s impossible to make. He\u2019s so special. And it didn\u2019t really interest me,\u201d DaCosta told Rolling Stone. \u201cThe thing that connects the two is that they\u2019re both bonkers, idiosyncratic, and very artistically personal works.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis film is the weird, deranged cousin to 28 Years Later, who you might be a bit ashamed of because they have weird, questionable interests,\u201d added O\u2019Connell. \u201cWe see how much nature is the unstoppable force at the end of the day. Nature prevails. The world will take its natural course with or without humans. But I don\u2019t think the infected are purely antagonists in our film. It definitely will make you consider that.\u201d<\/p>\n

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is said to expand the world to deepen our understanding of the rage virus\u2019 devastation. It will also feature more backstory on Dr. Kelson and his relationship with Samson.<\/p>\n
