{"id":127618,"date":"2025-09-02T16:22:25","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T16:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/127618\/"},"modified":"2025-09-02T16:22:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T16:22:25","slug":"impacted-federal-workers-in-michigan-offered-support-amid-layoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/127618\/","title":{"rendered":"Impacted Federal Workers in Michigan Offered Support Amid Layoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                            The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity gathers resources to assist affected Michiganders laid off from federal positions<\/p>\n<p>Lansing, MI\u00a0\u2013 For federal workers who may have recently lost their jobs, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO)\u00a0is highlighting resources to support them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFederal workers who reside in Michigan and have been impacted by recent layoffs can tap into our resources to ensure they have what they need at this time,\u201d said\u00a0LEO Director Susan Corbin. \u201cOur department is working to ensure laid off federal workers can access services \u2013 including filing for unemployment and searching for a new job \u2013 to help them on a pathway to new opportunities and a brighter future in Michigan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A comprehensive new webpage, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/FederalWorkerHelp\" title=\"Visit UIA&#039;s Resources for Terminated Federal Employees page.\" class=\"off-domain-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michigan.gov\/FederalWorkerHelp<\/a>,\u00a0provides impacted federal workers with easy access to unemployment, job search and community resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing laid off is a stressful experience for anyone who loses a job through no fault of their own,\u201d said Jason Palmer, Director of the Unemployment Insurance Agency. \u201cOur new webpage has information that will help people file an unemployment claim and connect them to other resources that provide assistance at a chaotic time in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                            RESOURCES <\/p>\n<p>Workers who recently lost their jobs through no fault of their own may be eligible to apply for temporary financial assistance through the\u00a0Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA).<\/p>\n<p>UIA has resources in place to help any laid off federal worker, including:<\/p>\n<p>                                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/leo\/bureaus-agencies\/uia\/tools\/claimant-roadmap\" title=\"Visit UIA;&#039;s Claimant Roadmap page.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UIA Claimant Roadmap<\/a>:\u00a0An easy-to-follow, six-step guide to applying for and understanding unemployment benefits.<br \/>\n                                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/leo\/bureaus-agencies\/uia\/tools\/claimant-orientation\" title=\"Visit UIA&#039;s Claimant Orientation page.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Online coaching sessions<\/a>:\u00a0Web-based guidance from UIA staff who walk users through the steps needed to complete an application and qualify for payments.<br \/>\n                                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/leo\/bureaus-agencies\/uia\/uia-community-connect\" title=\"Visit UIA&#039;s Community Connect page.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UIA Community Connect<\/a>: This program partners with local groups to provide guidance for workers from underserved groups who have faced barriers when filing for jobless benefits.<br \/>\n                                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/leo\/bureaus-agencies\/uia\/schedule-an-appointment\" title=\"Visit UIA&#039;s Phone Appointment page.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Schedule an Appointment<\/a>:\u00a0Schedule either an in-person, phone or virtual appointment to speak with a UIA Customer Service Agent.<br \/>\n                                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/leo\/bureaus-agencies\/uia\/tools\/publications\/work-search-requirement\" title=\"Visit UIA&#039;s Work Search Requirement page.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Looking for work<\/a>:\u00a0Tips to understanding your responsibilities when it comes to conducting and documenting your successful work searches.<br \/>\n                                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/leo\/bureaus-agencies\/uia\/tools\/milogin-and-miwam-help-center\" title=\"Visit UIA&#039;s Creating Your MiLogin Account page.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Assistance with setting up an account<\/a>:\u00a0Workers must create a MiLogin account before setting up a MiWAM account.<\/p>\n<p>For additional assistance, workers can find FAQs, videos and other resources at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.Michigan.gov\/UIA\" title=\"Visit the Unemployment Insurance Agency&#039;s website.\" class=\"off-domain-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michigan.gov\/UIA<\/a>. agencies\u00a0are also available to assist affected federal workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImpacted federal workers may be eligible to receive services through one or more workforce development programs,\u201d said Krista Johnson, Workforce Development Deputy Director for LEO\u2019s Office of Employment and Training. \u201cWorkers should contact their local Michigan Works! service center for information about programs and services that may be available to assist them with finding another job, upgrading their skills, or embarking on a new career path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Services offered through Michigan Works!
