He’s got arguably the best forehand on tour. Feels like he can hit a winner off anything on that side.

“And he’s a very aggressive player that tries to dictate and doesn’t, I would say, enjoy when someone else is dictating.

“So the whole game plan again, would be to do my best to kind of get on the front foot, whenever I can, and try to get him moving.”

Alex de Minaur shares his thoughts on Felix Auger-Aliassime ahead of their US Open match

De Minaur will perhaps be glad he won’t be taking on the forehand of Rublev, although a very tough test does await against Auger-Aliassime.

The duo have met three times on the ATP Tour so far, with the Canadian holding a 2-1 win-loss record over the Australian.

Sharing his verdict on Auger-Aliassime ahead of another rematch, De Minaur commented: “I think Felix is that type of player that everyone knows that his top level is incredibly high, right? And when he’s playing with confidence, he’s very tough to beat.

“And this week he’s obviously playing some incredible tennis, and he’s got a lot of weapons. He’s got a great serve, he’s got a great forehand.

“He looks to dictate whenever he can. So in that match-up for me it’s all about trying to disrupt his rhythm, not give him the chance to bully me on the court and do my best to counter and dictate whenever I can and ultimately I know what I’m getting myself into.

“He’s got moments on the court where he’s unbeatable, and then there’s moments that he’ll give you a couple errors. So for me it’s about weathering the storm.

“I’m giving myself a chance playing for a quarterfinal. These are the matches I want to be playing, and for me it’s about going for it, going for the opportunity. And I’m very excited for it.”

YearTitlesTournaments20251Washington (Outdoor/Hard)20242‘s-Hertogenbosch (Outdoor/Grass)
Acapulco (Outdoor/Hard)20231Acapulco (Outdoor/Hard)20221Atlanta (Outdoor/Hard)20212Eastbourne (Outdoor/Grass)
Antalya (Outdoor/Hard)20193Zhuhai (Outdoor/Hard)
Atlanta (Outdoor/Hard)
Sydney (Outdoor/Hard)Alex de Minaur ATP titles

While neither will be thinking beyond their next match, a potential meeting with world number one Jannik Sinner is on the cards.

The defending champion meets Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals, with De Minaur yet to beat Sinner in his 10 attempts so far.

Alex de Minaur has soared into another US Open quarterfinal, where he will take on Felix Auger-Aliassime.
