Now, the musician\u2019s father, Robert Stafford, is opening up about the pressures his son has faced \u2014 and what he believes led to this moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand how the music business is,\u201d Stafford said in a Friday interview<\/a> with The Times. \u201cIt\u2019s like a high. When you get to that level, you want that drug again, you want to hit that high again.\u201d<\/p>\n Paras Griffin via Getty Images<\/p>\n Stafford, who had his own gospel music career, spoke candidly about the emotional and financial weight his son has carried \u2014 from supporting his family to trying to sustain the momentum of his early success. <\/p>\n \u201cFor a 26-year-old to have to deal with what he\u2019s dealing with \u2014 to be a breadwinner for a lot of people, the inability to change his mother\u2019s situation and the pressure he puts on himself, that can weigh heavily on your heart,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Lil Nas X was released on $75,000 bail after spending several days in jail. But before his release, his father paid him a visit \u2014 one that left both men in tears, Stafford said. <\/p>\n \u201cI went to visit him in jail, and as soon as I walked through that door, I couldn\u2019t do anything but cry,\u201d he recalled. \u201cTo see my baby boy on the other side of that glass. We shed tears with each other for a minute. And I had to tell him that \u2018what you\u2019re going through is normal.\u2019 We all have breakdowns every now and then, but the difference is, yours get played out in the public eye.\u201d<\/p>\n In court, the rapper\u2019s attorney Christine O\u2019Connor called the incident an anomaly.<\/p>\n \u201cAssuming the allegations here are true, this is an absolute aberration in this person\u2019s life. Nothing like this has ever happened to him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Stafford added that his son is \u201csorry\u201d people saw him in such a vulnerable moment.<\/p>\n On Aug. 26, Lil Nas X broke his silence<\/a> and had a message for his fans.<\/p>\n \u201cYour girl is gonna be okay, y\u2019all. Okay. She\u2019s gonna be all right. She\u2019s gonna be all right.
