Jannik Sinner explains why Carlos Alcaraz is a \u2018big favourite\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n\u201cI am 100% going to play golf,\u201d declared Alcaraz after his 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 win against Lehecka.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s something that is working well, so why should I change the routine? Every day off I just go to try and play some golf. Tomorrow I have a really difficult round with Sergio Garcia. I will play, for sure.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has to give me ten of 15 shots, I think. I\u2019m not that great Sergio, come on.\u201d<\/p>\n
Former Masters champion Garcia was in the crowd watching Alcaraz turn on the style to beat Lehecka in front of a packed crowd on Arthur Ashe Stadium.<\/p>\n
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova was among those expressing her surprise at Alcaraz\u2019s relaxation methods, with the traditionalists suggesting he should use his two days off before the semi-final to relax and ensure he is ready for action on Friday.<\/p>\n
Yet Alcaraz believes his method of switching off from tennis gives him his best chance to succeed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love hitting the golf ball as well and he has found the perfect balance for himself,\u201d Navratilova told Sky Sports.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat speaks for his state of mind. He is mature enough to know what he needs to do now and it will help his longevity as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked to give Alcaraz a grade for his performance against Lehecka, Navratilova didn\u2019t hold back as she gave him top marks.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s all A\u2019s for Alcaraz in this tournament so far,\u201d she added. \u201cHe can only play as well as his opponent forces him to play, but he\u2019s clicking on all cylinders so far.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is playing better with every match and winning comfortably.\u201d<\/p>\n
Former British No 1 Tim Henman was also impressed with Alcaraz, as he claimed the joy he brings onto court helps him to perform at his best.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is playing with such freedom out there,\u201d said Henman on Sky Sports. \u201cAt times, it feels like an exhibition out there, as he is playing with so much joy.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is challenging himself to come up with better shots to impress himself and entertain his team. It was just a magical performance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alcaraz\u2019s is coming to the boil perfectly and he will now have a couple of days off to play golf before he lights up the US Open stage once again in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n
