If the first trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple<\/a> was just the words \u201cAren\u2019t you excited you only had to wait three months to see this footage?\u201d it would be enough. The fact is, in modern Hollywood, it\u2019s incredibly rare for a movie to come out in June<\/a> and for its sequel to be heading to theaters six months later<\/a>, in January. But that\u2019s what happened with 28 Years Later and its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which will be out January 16, 2026. And, lucky for us, the trailer is much, much more than a single sentence.<\/p>\n

The Bone Temple is directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) and picks up where Danny Boyle\u2019s previous film left off. After Spike (Alfie Williams) decided to leave his family and its safe village to explore the world, he ran into the insane Jimmy<\/a> (Jack O\u2019Connell) and his jumpsuit-wearing gang. The film will see Spike pulled between Jimmy\u2019s world as well as Dr. Kelson\u2019s (Ralph Fiennes) world. Here\u2019s your first taste.<\/p>\n

After Danny Boyle surprised us with this summer\u2019s decidedly human follow-up to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, The Bone Temple definitely seems like a less radical departure. But, we\u2019re fine with it, simply because it looks like the next chapter in this story. We follow and learn more about Spike; Dr. Kelson; the terrifying, well-endowed zombie named Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry); and, of course, Jimmy. Jimmy was the first character we encountered in the previous film, and after his surprising return at the end, it\u2019ll be very interesting to see where things with him go next.<\/p>\n

Oh, and don\u2019t forget The Bone Temple is where we\u2019ll finally see the return of Jim, the first zombie survivor, played by Oscar winner Cillian Murphy. He shows up at some point in this story and, if this film is a success, will play a larger role in the trilogy capper. Do you think this film is going to do well enough to get there?
