It won\u2019t have to be an Odyssean trek to the theaters for Christopher Nolan fans to snag IMAX\u00a0tickets to his next film<\/a>, \u201cThe Odyssey<\/a>.\u201d Two years after Nolan\u2019s Best Picture winner \u201cOppenheimer\u201d left audiences scrambling for IMAX seats in theaters, tickets for \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d will go on sale on July 17, 2025, exactly one year before the film is released. (\u201cThe Odyssey\u201d will be released on July 17, 2026, thanks to Universal.)<\/p>\n

Advance tickets will only be available at movie theaters with 70mm IMAX screens and only for select showtimes. As we all remember, \u201cOppenheimer\u201d in 70mm IMAX was a rarity in certain areas<\/a> with fans traveling across state lines to go to a screening. And that dedication panned out: \u201cOppenheimer\u201d earned $975 million at the global box office in 2023, with 20 percent of the grosses due to the IMAX tickets.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind, though, that a trailer for \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d hasn\u2019t even been released yet from Universal\u2026 despite those online leaks of the teaser playing before \u201cSuperman\u201d and \u201cJurassic World: Rebirth\u201d in theaters. Eagle-eyed fans suspect the trailer will be publicly shared on July 17 to coincide with the IMAX tickets going on sale.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Odyssey\u201d will be the first movie ever shot entirely with IMAX cameras.\u00a0Tom Holland leads the film as Telemachus, who goes searching for his lost father: Odysseus himself, played by Matt Damon. Damon\u2019s \u201cOppenheimer\u201d co-star Benny Safdie also appears, along with Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Elliot Page, Lupita Nyong\u2019o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo.<\/p>\n

The feature is a reimagining of the iconic Greek epic about hero Odysseus who spends a decade trying to return home after fighting in the Trojan War. Homer\u2019s \u201cOdyssey\u201d is believed to have been compiled around the 8th century B.C.E.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Odyssey\u201d was\u00a0announced in December 2024<\/a>\u00a0as Nolan\u2019s thirteenth feature. \u201cChristopher Nolan\u2019s next film \u2018The Odyssey\u2019 is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology,\u201d Universal shared in a post on X announcing the film in December. \u201cThe film brings Homer\u2019s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n
