{"id":130689,"date":"2025-09-03T21:54:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T21:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/130689\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T21:54:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T21:54:13","slug":"marion-bartoli-reveals-what-toni-nadal-told-her-about-felix-auger-aliassime-three-weeks-ago-as-he-makes-us-open-semis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/130689\/","title":{"rendered":"Marion Bartoli reveals what Toni Nadal told her about Felix Auger-Aliassime three weeks ago as he makes US Open semis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Felix Auger-Aliassime has found form at the perfect time, as he makes his presence felt in New York.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian star made a fast start at Flushing Meadows, taking down Billy Harris and Roman Safiullin in straight sets to reach the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> third round.<\/p>\n<p>There, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/alexander-zverev-reacts-for-the-first-time-since-his-disappointing-exit-at-the-us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Auger-Aliassime stunned Alexander Zverev<\/a> in four sets, securing one of the biggest Grand Slam wins of his career.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2232944218-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Felix Auger-Aliassime celebrates after beating Alexander Zverev at the 2025 US Open\" class=\"wp-image-125839\" \/>Photo by Mike Stobe\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Backing that up with another strong performance against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andrey-rublev\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrey Rublev<\/a>, the 25-year-old advanced to the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>Recovering from a set down, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/felix-auger-aliassime\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Auger-Aliassime<\/a> defeated Alex de Minaur, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, 7-6, to book his place in the last four.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the Canadian\u2019s impressive win, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/marion-bartoli\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marion Bartoli<\/a> recalled what Auger-Aliassime\u2019s former coach, Toni Nadal, said to her a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>Toni Nadal told Marion Bartoli that he gave Felix Auger-Aliassime \u2018everything\u2019 when they worked together<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Bartoli shared what the Spaniard told her before the US Open began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was actually at Rafa\u2019s academy three weeks ago with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/toni-nadal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toni [Nadal]<\/a>, to practice with a junior, and we spent a lot of time speaking about Felix and the fact that for one year Toni was on the court coaching him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe just told me, look, I might not be able to bring him where he wanted. He wanted to be number one in the world. I thought at the time it was difficult because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/rafael-nadal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rafa [Nadal]<\/a> was still playing and Novak [Djokovic] was there, and Carlos [Alcaraz] and Jannik [Sinner].<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"699\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-872477754-1024x699.jpg\" alt=\"Toni Nadal looks on during the 2017 ATP Finals\" class=\"wp-image-112221\" \/>Photo by Julian Finney\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I gave him everything that I knew and that Rafa taught me over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt that it is always incredibly important to find some people who can bring maybe 3, 4, 5 percent [extra] and to be able to take that on board and on the court with you, and it\u2019s going to make a massive difference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so glad for Felix, he is able to go back to him when he needs to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Auger-Aliassime no doubt remembered some of Nadal\u2019s teachings during the crucial moments of his quarterfinal, as he edged past De Minaur in a \u2018nervous\u2019 match.<\/p>\n<p>Felix Auger-Aliassime admits his win over Alex de Minaur was \u2018not pretty\u2019<\/p>\n<p>During his on-court interview, Auger-Aliassime was commendably honest about his performance on Arthur Ashe Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a lot of nerves today during the whole match,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was not pretty at all times, but that\u2019s what Grand Slam matches are.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome days you won\u2019t feel your best, but I was willing to dig deep and do everything I can to stand here right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian was then asked how it feels qualifying for his second US Open semifinal, four years after his first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels amazing. Four years ago, it feels like more honestly!\u201d said Auger-Aliassime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a tough couple of years, but it feels even better now to be back in the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you so much. It\u2019s been an amazing tournament so far. It\u2019s not over, there is still some tennis to play and the biggest challenges are yet to come, but that\u2019s what I love and train for, so I am going to show up and be ready for my match on Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Auger-Aliassime lost to Daniil Medvedev in his maiden US Open semifinal in 2021, but will be hoping for a better outcome when he plays either Jannik Sinner or Lorenzo Musetti on Friday, September 5.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Woodforde praises Felix Auger-Aliassime for \u2018keeping his head down\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>Weighing in with his thoughts on BBC Radio 5 Live, former doubles star Mark Woodforde gave his verdict on Auger-Aliassime and De Minaur\u2019s quarterfinal clash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGutsy play, both players. Had to try and survive with a bunch of nerves out there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlex de Minaur up an early set and a break before Auger-Aliassime started to find his game, I\u2019m not sure if he ever located his game, but at the crucial junctures of the match, at the back end of sets two, three, and four, he was able to utilise his weapons, the strengths that have helped him arrive to today\u2019s match, and they really did shine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGetting some cheap points, crucial points behind that serve and forehand.
