{"id":13100,"date":"2025-07-16T02:19:03","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T02:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/13100\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T02:19:03","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T02:19:03","slug":"ex-nfler-jimmy-graham-makes-history-with-arctic-rowing-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/13100\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-NFLer Jimmy Graham makes history with Arctic rowing challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Football, basketball and now rowing.<\/p>\n<p>Retired NFL tight end Jimmy Graham added to his already impressive sporting resume by completing the 584-mile Arctic Challenge in record time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neworleanssaints.com\/news\/jimmy-graham-rowing-team-arctic-challenge-complete-584-miles-10-days-new-orleans-saints-legend\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">as detailed by the Saints website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Graham, 38, alongside Andrew Tropp, Hannah Huppi and John Huppi, set a new record for a quartet by completing the grueling journey in a little more than 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy Graham and his team. @thejimmygraham\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>They are the first mixed-gender team and first All-American squad to accomplish the feat, while Graham is the first Black individual and Hannah the first woman to row a polar ocean, per the recap.<\/p>\n<p>The Arctic Challenge is is \u201c600-mile, record-setting expedition across the Arctic Ocean,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thearcticchallenge2025.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">per its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The group began July 4 in Tromso, Norway, and finished July 14 in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, according to the Saints\u2019 recap.<\/p>\n<p>The average trip is roughly 16 1\/2 days, per the report, and previous record of 15 days, five hours and 32 minutes had been set in 2023 by Ocean Revival.<\/p>\n<p>Graham rowing during the Arctic Challenge. @thearcticchallenge2025\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>Graham and his teammate reportedly faced inclement weather throughout the journey that forced them to drop anchor at two points, while rain and clouds affects their electronics.<\/p>\n<p>The five-time Pro Bowler provided updates to his Instagram account during the voyage, including a Day 3 recap featuring \u201cfreezing winds, sleep shifts, and non-stop seas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been raining nonstop for 24 hours. No sun for 72. We\u2019re officially in battery conservation mode Everything\u2019s wet. Everything\u2019s cold,\u201d he wrote last week in a separate post. \u201cBut the mission? Still fully charged. We are so thankful for everyone\u2019s continued support through this journey.
