\n\tAfter premiering at Sundance earlier this year, Twinless<\/a> is about to hit theaters across the country \u2014 though some of the film already made its way online months ago. <\/p>\n

\n\tTwinless<\/a> \u2014 which follows two young men who have lost their respective twin brothers and develop a friendship after meeting in a support group \u2014 was pulled<\/a> from Sundance\u2019s online screening portal in January after clips from the movie surfaced on social media platforms. O\u2019Brien became a trending topic on X (formerly Twitter) for one clip in particular, a sex scene that is a spoiler to the twisty storyline.<\/p>\n

\n\tMonths later, at the movie\u2019s Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday, O\u2019Brien told The Hollywood Reporter of the leaks, \u201cThat sucked. I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s nice to finally have the movie out in the world \u2014 but stop doing that, it affects us.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tWriter, director and fellow star James Sweeney<\/a> added, \u201cIt was really demoralizing and uncomfortable. The entitlement that people have to put things on the internet when they\u2019re not released and not ready for consumption \u2014 that\u2019s not how I wanted the film to be introduced. Obviously we hope that it\u2019s a net positive that it invigorates interest and try to look at the bright side that way, but I can\u2019t really personally condone piracy.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tSweeney was inspired to write the film after a longtime fascination with twins, having grown up, as he put it, \u201cin the era of the Olsens, Sister Sister, The Parent Trap \u2014 that\u2019s actually not a real twin. And then I dated an identical twin, and I wrote the first draft after he broke up with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Brien said the script was \u201cquite succinctly the best thing I had read in so long and really remained that for the four years I was attached to it. We were trying to get it off the ground and I thought it was really special and was a little confused how it ended up near me.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe film also marks the actor\u2019s first executive producer credit, which O\u2019Brien said \u201cmeans a lot. This one was definitely one of the closest things I\u2019ve ever held in a professional way and being a part of it for so long \u2014 I\u2019d never been so from the ground up with something.\u201d But watching Sweeney wear so many hats didn\u2019t motivate O\u2019Brien to write or direct himself, as he joked, \u201cWatching him do it you go, \u2018That\u2019s just so many emails.’\u201d<\/p>\n
