\n\tA live-action \u201cLife Is Strange<\/a>\u201d TV series has been greenlit at Amazon Prime Video<\/a>, Variety has learned exclusively. <\/p>\n

\n\tBased on the video game franchise of the same name, the show will be written by Charlie Covell<\/a>, who also serves as executive producer and showrunner. Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson will executive produce under their Story Kitchen banner. The series comes from Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap<\/a>, with Amazon MGM Studios producing. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cStory Kitchen has always believed that \u2018Life is Strange\u2019 deserved to be more than just a game\u2014it\u2019s a cultural touchstone,\u201d said Story Kitchen\u2019s Johnson and Goldberg. \u201cAfter a decade-long journey, we\u2019re honored to be bringing this beloved story to Amazon MGM alongside our incredible partners at Square Enix, our brilliant showrunner\/writer Charlie Covell, and the amazing team at LuckyChap. Together, this thoughtfully assembled dream team is ready to share Life is Strange with the world in an entirely new way!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPer the official logline, the story follows Max, \u201ca photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life or death choice that will impact them forever.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a huge honor to be adapting \u2018Life Is Strange\u2019 for Amazon MGM Studios,\u201d Covell said. \u201cI am a massive fan of the game, and I\u2019m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can\u2019t wait to share Max and Chloe\u2019s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first \u201cLife Is Strange\u201d game was released in 2015 to positive reviews, industry praise and award nominations and wins. In 2023, it was reported that the game had reached over 20 million total players. The original game was followed by the prequel \u201cLife Is Strange: Before the Storm\u201d in 2017. \u201cThe Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit\u201d and \u201cLife Is Strange 2,\u201d which focused on new characters, were released in 2018. These were followed by another standalone game, \u201cLife Is Strange: True Colors,\u201d in 2021. \u201cLife Is Strange: Double Exposure,\u201d which once again featured Max as the protagonist, came out in 2024. The games were developed by Don\u2019t Nod Entertainment and later Deck Nine with Square Enix serving as publisher. <\/p>\n

\n\tThere have been attempts to develop \u201cLife Is Strange\u201d for television for nearly a decade. Legendary Television was originally set to produce, while Johnson has been involved in the project since the beginning. This marks the first time a TV version of the game has been formally ordered to series, however. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFor years we\u2019ve had so many people asking us to create a \u2018Life is Strange\u2019 TV show and we\u2019re so pleased to finally partner with Amazon MGM Studios who we trust will do an incredible job bringing our universe to life\u201d said Jon Brooke and Lee Singleton, studio heads at Square Enix.<\/p>\n

\n\tCovell is best known for writing the Netflix dark comedy series \u201cThe End of the F***ing World,\u201d which was based on the graphic novel of the same name by Charles Forsman. Most recently, they created the Netflix drama \u201cKaos\u201d and co-created the British drama \u201cTruelove\u201d with Iain Weatherby. Their additional writing credits include the series \u201cHumans\u201d and the feature film \u201cBurn Burn Burn.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re so excited for our global Prime Video customers to experience the dynamic world of \u2018Life Is Strange,\u2019\u201d said Nick Pepper, head of US SVOD TV & development series for Amazon MGM Studios. \u201cThe series is in wonderful hands with Charlie Covell who has crafted a deeply captivating story based on the iconic video game. \n\tThis marks the latest game adaptation to find a home at Prime Video. Most recently, it was reported that the long-awaited \u201cTomb Raider\u201d series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge and starring Sophie Turner, another Story Kitchen production, would begin shooting in January 2026.<\/a> Prime Video also currently airs the series version of \u201cFallout,\u201d with Season 2 of that show set to launch in December<\/a> with a third season already ordered.<\/p>\n

\n\tOther game-based shows in the works at Prime Video include a \u201cWolfenstein\u201d series<\/a>, a \u201cMass Effect\u201d TV series<\/a>, a \u201cGod of War\u201d series<\/a> (which originally got greenlit in 2022), and a series based on the tabletop wargame \u201cWarhammer 40,000\u201d starring Henry Cavill.<\/a><\/p>\n
