More than half a million homes and businesses across Australia are set to receive full fibre NBN connections as the final stage of a huge upgrade to the network is rolled out.<\/p>\n

The rollout, which affects more than 620,000 homes and businesses still using fibre to the node connections, is part of a $3 billion investment by the Albanese Government alongside more than $800 million from NBN Co.<\/p>\n

Once it\u2019s complete by 2030, as many as 11 million homes and businesses will be able access the fastest wholesale internet speeds possible. More than 9.8 million can already access these speeds.<\/p>\n

NBN Co chief network officer Dion Ljubanovic said Aussies were embracing full fibre and high-speed internet speeds \u201clike never before\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NBN network \u2014 and access to high-speed broadband \u2014 is a critical enabler of productivity, innovation and economic growth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt ensures that homes and businesses, whether in metropolitan centres or regional towns, can fully participate in the digital economy now and into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sydney local Andrey Derevyanko, who works in the tech industry from his home in Engadine, said upgrading to full fibre \u201cchanged everything\u201d for his family.<\/p>\n

He said he and his family had more than 40 connected devices at home, and once his connection was upgraded to full fibre they \u201cdidn\u2019t need to worry about whether the internet could keep up anymore\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt could handle everything we threw at it, even when everyone was home and online at the same time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Modelling from Accenture, commissioned by the Albanese Government, suggests the upgrade will provide a $10.4b cumulative uplift in GDP over the next decade.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also projected to save individual households more than 100 hours and $2580 in avoided travel time per year.<\/p>\n

Minister for Communications Anika Wells said \u201call Australians\u201d deserved access to reliable and fast internet.<\/p>\n
