{"id":137290,"date":"2025-09-06T14:47:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-06T14:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/137290\/"},"modified":"2025-09-06T14:47:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T14:47:07","slug":"gabriela-dabrowski-erin-routliffe-reclaim-us-open-doubles-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/137290\/","title":{"rendered":"Gabriela Dabrowski, Erin Routliffe reclaim US Open doubles title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK \u2014 Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe won the U.S. Open women\u2019s doubles title for the second time in three years, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/04\/sports\/racial-branding-of-taylor-townsend-jelena-ostapenko-dustup-shows-how-little-weve-learned\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ending Taylor Townsend\u2019s whirlwind stint<\/a> in Flushing Meadows one victory short of what would have been the American\u2019s third Grand Slam championship with Katerina Siniakova.<\/p>\n<p>Seeded third, Dabrowski and Routliffe beat the top-ranked pair of Townsend and Siniakova 6-4, 6-4 in an entertaining final Friday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Dabrowski and Routliffe embraced afterward, celebrating Dabrowski\u2019s first major triumph since undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I\u2019m really proud of us. It was not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Townsend became one of the faces of the tournament, thanks to a post-match altercation early in singles play that she <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/28\/sports\/taylor-townsend-is-us-opens-voice-and-conscience\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wishes never happened<\/a>. Townsend, who is Black, said Latvian opponent Jelena Ostapenko told her she had \u201cno class\u201d and \u201cno education,\u201d an interaction that became a hot button topic with questions about whether the comments had racial undertones.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old said she didn\u2019t take it that way, acknowledging, \u201cThat has been a stigma in our community of being \u2018not educated\u2019 and all of the things, when it\u2019s the furthest thing from the truth.\u201d Townsend\u2019s online following grew exponentially, she said she received support from fellow players and Ostapenko ultimately apologized on social media, citing English not being her first language for what she thought to mean a critique of tennis etiquette.<\/p>\n<p>Townsend reached the fourth round in singles, losing to Barbora Krejcikova on Sunday when she failed to convert eight match points. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been a huge, monumental tournament for me,\u201d Townsend said. \u201cIt\u2019s really changed my life, and no matter the result, I already feel like I won.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In doubles, Townsend and Siniakova reached the final at a Grand Slam for a fifth time, along the way eliminating Venus Williams and Leylah Fernandez to end their much-talked-about wild-card run.
