The National Hurricane Center on Saturday continued to track an Atlantic system moving toward the Caribbean, but now only forecasts a low chance it could form into the season\u2019s next tropical depression or storm.<\/p>\n
As of the NHC\u2019s 8 a.m. tropical outlook, the tropical wave dubbed Invest 91-L in the central tropical Atlantic had just a small area of showers and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n
\u201cEnvironmental conditions are only marginally conducive for development, and the chances of this system becoming a tropical depression are decreasing,\u201d forecasters said. \u201cThe wave is expected to move generally westward at 10 to 15 mph.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s forecast to be near the Lesser Antilles by the middle to late part of next week.<\/p>\n
The NHC gave the disturbance a 30% chance to develop in the next two days and 30% in the next seven. That was down from predictions earlier in the week that went as high as a 90%.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service in Melbourne said it\u2019s too early to say if the system will have any impact on Florida.<\/p>\n

For the latest information, visit https:\/\/t.co\/yyximvs0dy<\/a>. pic.twitter.com\/rtuWMC2oKc<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 NHC_TAFB (@NHC_TAFB) September 5, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n If it develops, it would be the seventh tropical cyclone of the season and could become Tropical Storm Gabrielle.<\/p>\n Only one of the six named storms \u2014 Hurricane Erin \u2014 reached hurricane status, and that one grew to a powerful Category 5 storm with 160 mph winds, although never made landfall.<\/p>\n The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in early August updated<\/a>\u00a0its season forecast to call for 13-18 named storms this year, of which five to nine would grow into hurricanes. Two to five of those would develop into major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher.<\/p>\n The height of hurricane season runs from mid-August into October while the entire six-month season runs June 1 to Nov. 30.<\/p>\n Originally Published: September 6, 2025 at 7:45 AM EDT<\/p>\n
