The Phoenix Mercury<\/a> (27\u201314) look to extend their six-game win streak as they visit the Connecticut Sun<\/a> (10\u201331) this afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena.<\/p>\n

Phoenix is in the thick of the playoff race, sitting in fourth place with the same record as the red-hot Las Vegas Aces<\/a>, who have won 13 straight.<\/p>\n

Both teams have three games left in the regular season \u2014 two against struggling opponents and one looming showdown with the playoff-chasing Los Angeles Sparks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With the postseason bracket still taking shape, every result this final week could swing seeding. If the season ended today, the Mercury would draw the defending champion New York Liberty<\/a> in the first round.<\/p>\n

The Mercury have won eight of their last nine, finding balance on both ends of the floor. They\u2019re averaging 83 points per game during that stretch while holding nearly every opponent under 80. Satou Sabally<\/a> (16.3 points per game) has been a steady scoring force, while Alyssa Thomas<\/a>, the league\u2019s triple-double machine, continues to set the tone with a WNBA-best 9.2 assists per game.<\/p>\n

For Connecticut, the focus has shifted toward the future \u2014\u00a0or at least it should. The Sun have dropped four of their last five, including a lopsided defeat to the Chicago Sky<\/a>, and sit near the bottom of the standings at 10\u201331.<\/p>\n

League legend Tina Charles<\/a> remains a bright spot, averaging 20.5 points per game over her last two outings, including a 61.5% shooting performance against Chicago. Rookie guard Leila Lacan<\/a> has also emerged late in the season, scoring 22 points in back-to-back games to close out August.<\/p>\n
