EastEnders’ executive producer Ben Wadey has finally spoken out over Kat and Alfie Moon’s forgotten Redwater spinoff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The popular couple took centre stage in their own six-part drama in 2017, exploring their adventures in Ireland as Kat searched for her long-lost son.<\/p>\n

Redwater ended its first series on a cliffhanger<\/a> and its plots were never resolved after the show was cancelled by the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Over the course of the series, Kat met Dermott Dolan \u2013 her secret son and the twin of Zoe Slater. Kat had given birth to Dermott in a convent without knowing, after passing out once she’d welcomed Zoe into the world.<\/p>\n

While taking questions at an EastEnders press event this week, Wadey was asked whether he intends to delve back into the Redwater storylines now that Zoe has returned to the main show.<\/p>\n

However, essentially writing Redwater off as non-canon, he replied: “That is an interesting question. Look, it was a brilliant show, Redwater.<\/p>\n

“That was obviously a fair few years ago now, and adds a different element in a \u2013 I’d say, for now \u2013 parallel universe to Walford.”<\/p>\n

It’s unclear how this decision will affect the continuity and established storylines of EastEnders itself, as the concept of Zoe having a long-lost twin was introduced in the main show rather than Redwater.<\/p>\n

A memorable storyline in 2015 and 2016 saw June Whitfield play a nun called Sister Ruth, who knew the secrets of Kat’s past.<\/p>\n

In May 2015, Kat paid a visit to the convent where she remembered giving birth to Zoe and met with Sister Ruth.<\/p>\n

Once alone again, Sister Ruth checked the 1984 birth records which read: “February 1, 1984. Kathleen Slater, 14. Live births \u2013 2. One girl and one boy.”<\/p>\n

Kat discovered the truth in January 2016 when Sister Ruth reappeared for two more episodes.<\/p>\n

The subsequent fallout culminated in the death of Kat’s dad Charlie Slater<\/a>, who suffered a heart attack during a family row.<\/p>\n

When the story continued over on Redwater, Kat’s secret son Dermott Dolan was revealed to be a killer priest. <\/p>\n

The series ended with Dermott desperately trying to save Kat after she’d suffered a grisly accident on a boat and was thrown into the water.<\/p>\n

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast. <\/p>\n
