\n\tAs Abbott Elementary<\/a> gets ready to ring the classroom bell on a new year with Season 5, Emmy-winning creator, star and EP Quinta Brunson<\/a> is teasing some new dynamics \u2014 from the furthering of Janine (Brunson) and Gregory\u2019s (Tyler James Williams<\/a>) relationship to some fresh faces that may not be the teachers\u2019 lounge cup of tea.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think you can expect to experience more relationship milestones,\u201d Brunson said of the couple, who crossed a major one in the Season 4 finale<\/a>, as Janine befriended Gregory\u2019s father, \u201clike you\u2019re gonna see the things that happen to typical couples in their 20s: meeting more parents, meeting more family members, figuring out what steps are next, moving in together \u2014 things like that.\u201d (For example, this season will feature Gregory\u2019s apartment, which Williams described to Deadline as \u201cvery Gregory\u201d<\/a> in appearance.)<\/p>\n

\n\tAudiences can also expect a new teacher, Luke Tennie\u2019s Dominic<\/a>, and potentially more recurring and guest characters. As for whether the Abbott newbies will get along with the mainstays, or vice versa, the jury is still out.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnytime you bring an outside character into the picture, feathers are ruffled,\u201d Brunson told Deadline, \u201cand we\u2019re going to see some of that, whether it be for our characters or from our characters to them; we have a group of exciting characters that might make other people be like: \u2018What the hell is wrong with these people?\u2019 But we\u2019re excited for those moments.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tUpping the ante this year, Abbott Elementary embarked on the daunting task of filming a live episode during a Philadelphia Phillies game<\/a>. Though the cast and creatives were hoping for a solid outing, what they got exceeded their expectations.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere are things to tease, but the most exciting thing is that we went to one of the most historic games ever in baseball \u2014 we could not have accounted for that; there was no way to know it would go that well, it\u2019s what you imagine,\u201d Brunson explained. \u201cWe were like, \u2018Ah, we hope we get footage of, like, at least one home run.\u2019 There were seven, and four by one player.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhat else? Brunson previewed \u201cnew pairings of our characters, things you haven\u2019t seen before\u201d and, more tantalizing: the teachers will \u201ctackle something really, really, really major \u2014 a big game-changer that could make or break them [with] some significant shakeups\u201d at the school.<\/p>\n
